I have spent the afternoon with my sister, she has sorted out all her old maternity wear for me and we were discussing all her old baby stuff she has saved for me.

I then went in to Tesco and thought ill just have a look down the baby aisle. I'm 16+3 and not purchased anything for the baby yet. So I saw this really cute baby towel with a hood, which has a giraffe on the hood (i love giraffes) and fell in love with it. It's also reduced, (wasn't very expensive anyway) and thought i might buy this. So I picked it up looked at it for a while and kept going to put it in the trolley, however each time I went to I got scared lol. After quite a few minutes I then told myself how stupid I was being and finally put it in the trolley and carried on walking.

I have then walked further round the shop looking at this item in my trolley finished my shopping, got near the till which was back by the baby aisle and decided it was to soon and put it back on the shelf.

I have just got home thought about it and have made myself chuckle lol

Surely it's not to soon to buy things is it?

Lou x

Oh bless! You have to start buying stuff at some point, can't see how a cute little towel at 16 weeks will hurt! Smile

Buy it!!! When I had DS I bought his first outfit after the 12 week scan (unisex obviously) and I still look at it now and it makes me smile - DS is 2 :)

I was too scared to buy anything for ages too. I officially brought my first item at 20 weeks and it was a packet of baby grows from Asda. I still freaked out though and was tempted to throw it back onto the shelf and run away, but I knew I needed to start buying things!

I think it's the whole superstitious thing. My mum is the worst for it. 'Oh, don't bring a pram into the house until after the baby is born, it's bad luck otherwise'

My DH bought a white rabbit teddy bear the day we got BFP (just before Easter). I had to stop him buying a Winnie the Pooh as well! This didn't bother me. However now that we've had the 12 and 20 week scan (part 1 of it anyway) I keep doing the exact same as you, going to buy something then getting freaked out and not. I don't know why I'm scared now when I let DH that first day! I know I'll have to buy something soon but I keep putting it off Hmm.

Buy the towel, or you'll end up like me and talk yourself out of buying anything lol Grin

Buy it! I'm only 17 weeks and I've been buying things for months... Mainly things off eBay - I'm working on the principle that if I see a bargain now I should grab it as it might not be there in 5 months. DH thinks it's too early but mainly because he's resistant to me filling up the box room with baby things.

I'm almost 19 weeks, and last week bought an immaculate, almost brand new Moses basket and stand for £10. I wouldn't normally buy it yet, but it was such a good deal and so perfect I knew in my rational mind that if I didn't get it I would be unlikely to find such a bargain again.

Still, the minute I got it into the house I felt really freaked out and wanted to get it straight back out again! Grin. I've managed to calm myself down, and have put it out of sight in the spare room. I'm not a superstitious person, and I know if something happened it would be nothing to do with the Moses basket, but it must be something to do with the all-pervading superstition surrounding pregnancy!

SupermansBigRedPants · 13/07/2013 20:07

Aaw I get like that! I'm 36 weeks now and have everything in I think but at the beginning it was so surreal to be buying baby things again -ds had just turned 1, this baby is 2-3 years earlier than planned!

I found buying online really helpful - bang things in the trolley, pay, get it 2 days later and stick it out the way - That way I bought things but didn't have the gut wrenching feeling of 'oh my bloody fucking god I'm having a baby. The baby will use these towels/vests/blankets. Aaaaaaaaaargh' when in the shops Grin

Buying online made it much easier and less realistic, I marked things off my 'to buy for baby' list then did nothing until I was ready to go through everything I'd bought just this week in fact and it's great having everything together to play with/arrange :)

Buy the towel and then start clicking is my advice Wink Grin

I'm 25 weeks tomorrow and just bought my first babygros today. I kept looking at them in a panic so have shoved them in a cupboard out of the way

I took the plunge today and we bought my first baby thing. We bought our pram from babies r us (got a very good deal with 22% off) and I wasn't scared at all lol, maybe because I had my mom with me x
