I'm currently 15+4 Wks and signed off work for two Wks due to a significant bleed and hospital admission - (bleed from me, not baby and unclear why).
My job is very demanding from a time commitment point of view, pressure and emotions.
Basically I'm very worried about my return and having to cope with it all again. I want to go back but want to be considered for lighter duties. Do you think it's worth while talking to my GP before my return? I have a MW appointment next week, or ask the MW instead? Xxx

Absolutely talk to your GP before you return and also try and get a meeting with your manager/HR to discuss. You could ask for a further risk assessment now that your situation has changed.

Definitely! If my job gets too much for me (once ive had my 12 wk scan) I will be speaking to manager and gp to sort something out there really is no point taking any risks!! xx

Yes I would, the baby and pregnancy is the priority. I know it's hard but I'm trying to keep my emotions out of work right now and trying to stay calm no matter how stressed others get, so that helps. Good luck, hope everything is ok x

If you do decide to go back you should have no worries about asking for lighter duties. They're legally obligated to adjust your role according to the issues raised in your risk assessment. If they can't do this then they have to sign you off sick on pay. They can't force your maternity leave until much later. I'm not sure if the exact time but I think it's something like 36 weeks (by which point you'll probably want to go anyway.) talk to HR but do some research of your own first via government websites and CAB so you know your rights in case they try to fob you off with anything. Hope you're feeling better now and managing to rest up.

Thank you for the comments. It's difficult for me take a step back as i enjoy my job and I've always been someone who copes well with the pressure and the challenges. However, after a near loss, i need to calm down. I'm going to book to see the GP next Wk. x
