Where has my bump gone?

I'm 38+2 and a bit confused!

Pretty slim 8/10 pre-pregnancy, not put on much weight so bump has always looked big, until yesterday, when it seemed to sink inwards while driving back from a food shop Confused

It looked for a moment like the baby had been teleported out!

I can stick it out when if I try, but have been naturally holding it tense, and if I suck my tummy in you almost can't tell I'm pregnant, which is really weird. My first thought was that the baby had engaged but I don't feel like there's a watermelon between my legs or anything; although I am seeing a lot more and managed to wet myself so spectacularly the other day that DH thought it was my waters (he made me call the midwife, who said it sounded like a bladder control issue Grin).

Movement is not reduced but it is muted, as if he's in a position where much of his movement is padded, although when he does poke a foot out of my side it is as strong as ever!

Braxton hicks a couple of times a day and a bit of diarrhoea, but no other symptoms beyond a strong as strange urge to spend two hours scrubbing the vinyl in the kitchen (completely nonsensical as laminate is being fitted tomorrow!) and to repack my hospital bag several times.

So... any idea about the strange absence of bump? Am I still good for another few weeks?

Are you sure that your waters didn't go?

I would give the labour ward a ring.

BikeRunSki · 11/07/2013 23:45

this

I did after I wet myself, and they said I'd just wet myself, although I did think it was a bit strange that I had wet myself with literally no warning!

No regular contractions have started and it has been two days since the incident, just a few painful (but manageable) Braxton Hicks...

Not sure if this is relevant but bump was pretty painful earlier, in my midsection. Not sure why but it went away after 30 mins or so and baby is still wriggling about as normal.

I mean now, rather than in the morning btw.

Hope all is ok.

Moomin call your midwife and tell them about that pain. I had that pain on my bump recently and it literally killed. I couldn't stand and lasted over an hour. Went in to be monitored and was told I was having contractions. Baby hasn't arrived yet but I have been warned that it may happen soon. Defo give them a call to be on the safe side.

CheeseFondueRocks · 12/07/2013 08:52

I would make them check that your waters haven't gone. Demand it. If they have and it's been already 48 hours, you are at risk of infection.

badguider · 12/07/2013 08:55

has the baby 'engaged' and moved down into your pelvis?

LastButOneSplash · 12/07/2013 08:55

Have you called the labour ward yet? Please do.

Jollyb · 12/07/2013 08:59

Moomin I posted on your other thread and I really do think you need to be assessed properly. I'm not sure that your midwife should have been so confident that you had wet yourself over the phone.

I developed an infection after my waters were broken and it wasn 't pleasant!!

You won't be wasting their time and better to be safe than sorry
Good luck

RobotBananas · 12/07/2013 09:02

Did the ward tell you to put a pad on, to see if you're leaking waters?

rachk2702 · 12/07/2013 09:02

Defiantly ring the labour ward, starts like the onset of labour!! Keep us updated Grin

Hi everyone and thanks for your responses! We went into the labour ward for monitoring last night and all is well - waters intact, heart rate fine and of course the cheeky sod started to move about quite vigorously once he realised he was the centre of attention...

She did an internal examination and mucas plug seems to be loosening but no other signs that labour is imminent. He has engaged, though, which apparently accounts for the change in bump size and the amount of movement I can feel. She said to come back today if the movement continues to worry me but I feel a lot more settled now. No cramps to report this morning.

Poor DH has back to back meetings at work so I feel a bit guilty about dragging him out of bed in the wee hours, but I suppose it's good practice for when the baby comes!

While I was hooked up to the monitor we heard a baby being born in the labour ward. DH said it sounded like a teradactyl Grin

Glad all ok. Maybe you should go back to plan A to get things moving Wink

SourSweets · 12/07/2013 11:15

Haha a teradactyl! That's hilarious. Glad all is well, good luck when things do get moving!

LastButOneSplash · 12/07/2013 11:27

Really glad all is well. Thanks very much for the update.

IceAddict · 12/07/2013 11:38

Maybe baby has turned to face outwards (back to back) this gives a different shape, are you getting on your knees leaning on the birthing ball, midwife told me to keep doing that to stay in correct position and make sure you keep knees lower than hips when sitting Smile so much to remember

rachk2702 · 12/07/2013 12:03

Aw glad everything is well Grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/07/2013 14:52
