Call in sick or annual leave?

Morning all,

I'm sat in bed about how tired I am. I'm 26 weeks with dc2, haven't slept well in days, and suddenly the braxton hicks have started and kept me up for hours last night. By the time I fell asleep, it was time to get up for a wee Confused

I've pushed myself to go into work every day for weeks, but today it feels too much.

Do you think it's ok to call in sick, or should I take annual leave? My leave is obviously precious, but I'm not sure what the done thing is.

My boss is pretty understanding, and I've nothing urgent to complete today.

TIA

Grrrr- that should be "sat in need weeping about how tired I am".

I'd prob call in sick, unless your boss is so understanding that if you explained the situation and offered to take leave he would tell you to take it as sick!

Call in sick, you're not feeling well.

I'm pregnant with DC2 and my sick leave went from 2 days in the past year to 10 days this year - my boss was fine with it, and pregnancy related sickness doesn't count against your employment record.

Take a couple of days off and rest - I hope you feel better soon.

Hey OP, sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish! I would definitely call in sick, you shouldn't have to take this as annual leave especially as you've been pushing yourself to go into work every day for weeks. Your health is more important than work and I'm sure you're boss will understand - and if he doesn't then that's his problem!

I called in sick on Friday for similar reasons to you and I was made to feel like I was being lazy for not coming in!!! A fellow colleague said she felt tired and was having trouble sleeping in the heat so she could only imagine how much more difficult it would be to be pregnant to which my line manger replied "well the difference is that you came into work"!! I was pretty pissed off when I heard that but I was bloody glad I did stay at home on Friday as I was sooooo tired I could not have concentrated at work.

I hope you feel better and take it easy, you deserve it! Xx

Thank you! I called in and just said I wasn't coming in - I'll deal with the detail tomorrow.

Interesting assumptions made though - my boss is a she!

Feeling much better knowing I've got a quiet day of pottering ahead, and not trying to force myself to keep at it.

Ta!

OP, my only caution about calling in sick is that in some organisations, and depending how far along you are, it can trigger your maternity leave to start. Just be sure to check your company's HR policy. I'm sure this is the case much closer to 40 wks but best just to double check.

Is there any way you can work at home? I've just started doing this once a week mid-week to help with the tiredness and just not have to do a commute. I was lucky that my employer was very understanding.

Hope you get some rest.

Hi KD - I mentioned this at my risk assessment, and my boss responded with the option of working at a different office. We're reviewing my RA at the end of the month so will bring it up again.

Feeling so much better just for chilling out today.

Thanks all!
