baby hiccups - how close together are hiccups?

I realise this is me being a bit paranoid but, when your baby hiccups in the womb are the hiccups really close together? like every second or so? Much more close together than you would usually hiccup.

Reason I ask is because dd has epilepsy and one of the specialists I saw for this pregnancy asked me if I had felt dd having seizures inside me. It has just got me a bit worried and although I am fairly confident this baby is just hiccuping, there is a tiny part of me worried that it might be seizing.

Hi there, yes that is certainly correct with my baby, every second or so, like a ticking type thing, i am 29 weeks atm.

Sounds like normal hiccups to me. My baby has loads.

Great - thanks! Knew I was being paranoid but just wanted to check!

Ticking is a good way to describe it!

omg im freaked out after reading this. my baby has had shakes inside me. he has had hiccups too but they are different.
these shakes are very fast shaking movements and last a few seconds - its kinda like baby shivering inside me. i thought nothing of it until i read this thread do you think he may have epilepsy??

i didn't feel anything like this with my last pg

Rantingqueen · 05/06/2006 21:18

i am another one who is now a bit concerned?

This is my 3rd baby and I know what hiccups feel like. But quite often the baby will shake, like everything is kicking and punching and wiggiling very fast at the same time. I'm sure I didn't have this with the other 2.

Should I be worried?

when pg with dd2 she got them at least twice a day and shook about a bit, she's fine, still gets them twice a day now she's out, all she has to do is smile and she gets tham.

just wondered if i could reassure you. My ds (who is now 3mths old) had what felt to me like seizures in utero; felt like he was shivering. Even asked gp if it were possible. Apparently it would be very very rare. He does is not have epilepsy but i do notice him shiver occasionally when having a wee as lots of babies do! Could this explain do you think ?! :)

HITC - how odd I just asked a similar question on the july thread and then found this! My baby's hiccups come about 1 a second and I had the same fear - sounds like it's pretty normal though :)

I feel reassured reading this. I'm 26 weeks pregnant & have felt shivering / shaking sensations coming from the baby & the really rapid pulsing which I think must be hiccups. Glad to read others have also had these. I'm thinking it's just having a little party in there, getting used to things!
