I said I'd wait a bit longer.

Due date is on Wednesday. Will see consultant again next Monday if nothing happens until then.

I don't whether I'm mad or brave or what not to take them up on the offer. I think it's because everything else about this pregnancy is so abnormal it would be nice to have at least a normal-ish labour and birth.

You go with what you feel is right!at least you have some control over that.
Good luck with the birth if we dont hear from you before next week!Smile

biglips · 05/06/2006 11:18

emkana · 05/06/2006 11:18

is there any reason to induce you, I'd avoid it otherwise, apparently it can be bit unpleasant, tho' no experience myself. Hope you're okay. xx

biglips · 05/06/2006 11:20

well as i dont know your full history of your pg... you go what feels right and dont let them bully you into it!

Good luck xx

Mazzystar · 05/06/2006 11:20

Damn right emkana. Why be induced before your due date?

emkana · 05/06/2006 11:23

they're offering it to me for my benefit, because they think I might not be able to cope with the uncertainty any longer, but I can, just.

In a way it's quite nice to defer having to face up to reality.

(For those who don't know about my "history": Baby might have serious genetic disorder)

emkana, I truly think you are better off at least giving nature a chance to take its course. It's one of those things you probably want to review on a day-by-day basis. Go with your heart - you know what is best for you and your baby.

Mazzystar · 05/06/2006 11:32

It is good that they are giving you the option, but for what its worth I would prefer a more natural labour if possible.

(I haven't posted on your other threads because I haven't quite known what to say, but thinking positive thoughts for you.)

BudaBabe · 05/06/2006 11:35

If you can keep going then it's probably best to let nature take it's course. Have been wondering how you were and if anything had happened yet.

Will be thinking of you.

GeorginaA · 05/06/2006 11:36

I think you're doing the right thing, emkana. When baby is well-cooked and overdue, you're sweltering in the summer heat and you've got to the "for god's SAKE get it OUT!" stage then it might be the time to take up the offer Wink

Go with your instincts :)

foxinsocks · 06/06/2006 13:13

good luck emkana. Hope it all goes ok if you go into labour in the meantime.

emkana · 06/06/2006 13:14

Thank you. I will be quite happy if I get through today without having this baby - it's silly, but I didn't fancy having him on 6/6/6.

Tomorrow, however, I will be as ready as I'll ever be...
just sh*t-scared though.

PrettyCandles · 06/06/2006 13:18

I don't see how it makes things any better for you to go through a labour that would be potentially harder on you than a natural labour would be. FWIW I think that your gut instincts are right. If you do choose induction then don't feel you have to prove anything by doing it wihout pain relief!

Whatever you choose to do, let's hope it goes smoothly.

mummy23 · 06/06/2006 15:37

The wanted to induce me with ds1, but i didn't want to, prefered to wait for nature to take its cause and the booked me in to see the consultant when i would have been 40+6, well i went into labour the day before and had ds1 that day (40+6)

Good Luck with your labour, i'm sure you will be full of joy once your lo is born, and you will say it was all worth it in the end!(thats what we all say)Grin

Arabica · 07/06/2006 11:29

Hi Emkana. I think if you can cope with staying pregnant then that is what you should do until induction becomes a medical necessity. With so many interventions, tests etc, it's good to be able to maintain some control for yourself. For me that means having a C-section as that's what I was going to do if my pregnancy was 'normal'. Do you know what'll happen after the birth in terms of tests etc? (I'll be finding out about all that when I am 36wks)

emkana · 07/06/2006 12:57

They are going to take some cord blood to test for the gene that is responsible for achondroplasia. Otherwise I'm not sure. Because of the whole uncertainty over the precise diagnosis they don't really know either I think.

I really do want to hold on, but if nothing happens by next Monday I might ask to be induced, we'll see.

Well done holding out until after 6/6/6 Emkana! I know someone who had a baby at 6am yesterday and his friends are referring to him as "the beast" Grin
