What should I do if labour starts on when I'm in Ireland?

I am holidaying in Ireland for a week when I am 34/35 weeks. I have to go at this time as it overlaps with a family wedding. I know it is highly unlikely that I would go into labour while there-but does anyone know what I should do if it does start! Do I need special insurance? Will any hospital take me? Any other advice?

You need an EHIC and travel insurance - check small print for level of coverage; but you want both full maternity cover and neonatal. EHIC covers you for treatment on the same terms as a resident, but you need insurance as well (as things like repatriation aren't covered).

Where will you be in Ireland? If it will be Dublin I'd recommend Mount Carmel (private) or Holles St (public) for maternity hospitals.

How are you travelling? Have you checked they will take you that late?

Thanks all! I should be OK to get there. One of the ferry companies (I can't remember which) will take me, so we have booked that (the others won't!). If all else fails ryanair will take me up until the end of the 36th week as long as I have a fir to fly letter. I will get onto insurance today-my travel insurance is up soon so need to look into that anyhow and I think (but must double check) that I have an EHIC. I will be travelling a bit but mostly will be around the Dublin area. Thanks again!

If you are in Northern Ireland or can get there then you get NHS care! Slightly odd suggestion but just so you know!
