Hoping someone can put my mind at rest so I can get some sleep...

Went for Chinese with DH and shortly after eating felt really dizzy and nauseous. I had chicken, he had king prawn (I had 2 of his prawns) and we shared crispy duck and noodles (contained shrimp too) Got home, probably 30 mins after finishing and was in cold sweats, didn't know where to put myself. 10 mins later cue violent vomiting and diarrhoea for about an hour.

I've just woken up, 2 hours later and feel 'ok'. Was it food poisoning? It was SO fast and SO violent though? Should I talk to NHS now I'm feeling better just to check the LO is ok. I've just sat a drank a pint of water and had 'normal' movement from her.
Should I call NHS Direct now, in the morning or am I being PFB worry-wart and just relax as I'm getting normal movement?

This being pregnant lark is stressful Sad
TIA Thanks

Its unlikely to be food poisoning from your Chinese as all food poisoning bugs usually take between 6 an 48 hours after you have eaten the bad food amd usually last longer than your symptins so no worry about those nasty side effects. So could be a general sick bug?

I've had two episodes like this during this pregnancy, was just told to keep hydrated, but to call back if I couldn't keep water down for 12 hours in case I got dehydrated. Luckily it only lasted a few hours then I just felt drained, and like you had normal movement from baby.

However, if you get flu-like symptoms also I would def ring the GP as there is one fairly rare type of food poisoning (listeriosis I think) that can be harmful. Though like someone else has said, it probably wouldn't come on that quick so maybe think about the meal you had before that.

Tbh I always think if you're worried just call GP/midwife as it will put your mind at rest. They very rarely make you feel like you've wasted their time and they know how.much of a worrying time pregnancy can be.

Thanks both. As it came and went so
rapidly I'm wondering if it was actually an allergic reaction. Going to get an appt with GP tomorrow if I can. Today's focus is drinking a lot of water and sleeping.
Thanks again Thanks

Just dug out my medical textbook (im not a medic btw) to look up your incubation period. Very few food poisoning sources have symptom onset in such short a space of time.

Id ring NHS Direct for some advice and keep yourself hydrated. Not sure what else you can do really.

Was your husband ill? Does the restaurant have a good hygiene rating?

RememberingMyPFEs · 07/07/2013 15:35

Thanks Raven
DH wasn't ill at all. I'm ok today, just feeling rather delicate. Had about 2litres of water and 2 sachets of diarolyte and will keep going with fluids and salts; but will certainly get appt with GP tomorrow. Increasingly thinking allergic reaction, which isn't great either but fits timing better perhaps...
At least she is giving me lots of movement today so I know she's doing ok Smile

Last night I'd just bathed the children after dinner and had sudden onset violent stomach cramps, dizziness, feeling hot and flustered. I was in the bathroom for a while being very ill. Once 'it' was all out, I was perfectly fine again. Fine again today. Normally, I'd say it was food poisoning because ime, it behaves exactly like that. Your body goes into total overdrive and expels the lot. Once the source is gone, it's done with. With a virus I've always felt ill afterwards too and subsequent fluids come straight out too. BUT dd has had exactly the same thing, only a few days ago and MIL who we saw yesterday morning has just had the same thing too so I'm thinking weird bug atm.

Anyway, it's not a concern in pregnancy usually. Of course if you're worried, you must seek reassurance but your beautiful baby is a parasite in the nicest possible way. They take what they need from you and your stores and you just get to feel extra rubbish when ill due to it.

waves at Rosie I lost the 40 thread and can't find it on my damn phone Sad miss you guys!! How are you doing?

Sorry to hear others have been ill too but its reassuring to know the LO is well protected in there! Now I just need some decent sleep before she decides to emerge Wink

It's been quite on thread. Not sure how to link. . I search fab 40' when i lose it. No July baby's reported yet. ....

motherinferior · 07/07/2013 18:08

I think that by this stage your baby is probably going to be fine whatever you do - s/he is just about 'cooked'GrinIn 7 days' time you'll be classed as full term...Grin

most common FP is within 2-6 hours of eating food That doesn't mean that FP can't happen sooner than 2 hours or way after 6 hours.

I started throwing up about 30 minutes after taking penicillin when pg with dd1, I stopped taking it and have since had it without any type of reaction - yet at aged 3 dd1 was prescribed this medicine and is very allergic.

My only warning would be to watch the baby with seafood if you don't think it is FP

RememberingMyPFEs · 07/07/2013 19:21

Rosie - I can only ever find threads from 08/09. Will try again Smile
ivy thanks for the link! The not know between FP or allergy is why I think I should probably chat to my GP. I certainly will be very wary of shellfish for me and DD until she can be tested (older than 2 I think?)

I'm feeling mostly recovered now. Never ever been so violently ill in my life - hopefully never again!
