Best exercise DVD for pregnancy

Can anyone recommend a good DVD to use in pregnancy? I was pretty active before (a regular runner) but haven't done much since I got my BFP as felt awful in 1st trimester! I've started doing pre natal Pilates so keen to find something more cardio focused. Any recommendations would be great! Thanks Smile

Ooh I need this too. Watching with interest.

A great website for you in Fittamamma, www.fittamamma.com/ I know not a dvd but they give so much great advice and exercise suggestions and they sell clothing! Support tops and trousers for your bump so if you want to carry on running then you have support, I am 6 months pregnant and swear by my high support top! I am a runner, have been since i was 16 so was desperate to carry on exercising!

I highly recommend it to everyone who even mentions pregnancy fitness lol!

FraggleRock77 · 09/07/2013 12:54

Are you still running RosePetal? I was a regular runner too. Had an exhausting 1st T - then a major bleed. I'm currently swimming but it's not the same as a good run x

ThreeEyedRaven · 09/07/2013 15:20

ooh yes I'd love a good pregnancy DVD too waits patiently

ThreeEyedRaven · 09/07/2013 15:21

I'm normally a very avid swimmer/cyclist but these last few weeks I've morphed into an avid ass sitter. T1 is horif

cadidog · 09/07/2013 16:50

Posting to await suggestions. T1 is kicking my ass too, I'm managing to do level 1 of Jillian Michaels Shred & Ripped DVD's once a week - avoiding the abs work that's lying down but I'm not sure if it's exactly safe. The Tracy Anderson Pregnancy Project DVD's are great and pretty tough but totally lacking in cardio. Does anyone know if the Davina one has cardio in? I've only ever done one of her workout DVD's (pre-pregnancy) and found her constant positivity a tad grating.

Susie888 · 09/07/2013 17:01

I downloaded one from the internet by Kathy Smith (forgot what its called) but what I downloaded is Cardio (approx 30 mins with warm up) and some other leg and tummy exercises/stretches. I was also a fairly keen runner before I became pregnant and have found things fairly frustrating exercise wise but this Kathy Smith DVD does work me out some. I only ever do the 30 min cardio section but it is enough to feel like I am doing something. It is a bit 80's though so not sure how 'recommended' it would be now especially the stretch sections although for me the cardio work out seems fine and is not too taxing but you can get a good (ish) workout from it, probably depending on your level of fitness prior to pregnancy.

Susie888 · 09/07/2013 17:04

oo just found a clip from it on youtube
:

can't remember the exact site I downloaded this from but it might be available online still - just saw it on amazon as VCR format so it must be ancient!

BeanoNoir · 09/07/2013 17:04

Erin O'Brien is pretty good I think, especially later on in pregnancy.

Quodlibet · 09/07/2013 17:10

I've just ordered and done the Erin O'Brien one, and it is good, fairly challenging in places whilst not leaving you in a sweaty panting mess, and seems to get you moving in a sensible way with enough detail on muscle groups etc. I'd been doing Jillian previous to pregnancy but I just think it's too hardcore for me now after being laid up for T1 twice in a row one MC then this pg)

Erin wouldn't be sufficient on its own as there's only 1 workout on the DVD and I'd like more variety but it does have a good warm-up and cool-down.

Rosepetal27 · 15/07/2013 12:43

Hey FraggleRock 77

Yes I am still managing to run, more of a jog now though! I have been quite lucky touch wood!
Yea I have been swimming too, but more inclined to run, especially in this weather!
Have you tried power walking instead of running? x

Stevie77 · 13/08/2013 19:59

Resurrecting this thread! Any conclusions about DVDs so far?

I too like 30 days shred and I also do body pump once a week, but even though I'm quite early on in the pregnancy I am getting tired quicker. So I have been looking for so s'thing to replace the shred with but I want more of a workout than Yoga/Pilates.

FraggleRock77 · 13/08/2013 21:52

I've bought Erin O'Brien and I'm back to adapted body pump. The DVD is tough and gets my heart rate up x

FraggleRock77 · 13/08/2013 22:14

Oh and tried power walking but it's just not the same xxxWink

MrsPatMustard · 14/08/2013 07:49

Anyone able to recommend anything that goes at a more gentle pace? Have had real hormone-relate breathlessness all pregnancy and have struggled to do anything remotely exerting since week 6. (Now 16+2) I think really intense cardio would probably finish me off at this point - need to build my fitness back up gradually....

Stevie77 · 14/08/2013 09:50

Fraggle I was looking at Tracy Anderson last night on YouTube, it looks odd, different to everything else and the reviews are good so I'm considering that. Anyone tried it?

islingtongirl · 14/08/2013 11:46

I've been doing Erin O'Brien DVD and yes fairly tough but it's only 40 mins (unless you also do the one with a partner afterwards) so found it doable - I would say you need a reasonable level of fitness beforehand though - there are a lot of squats etc and I did feel it the next day, and I have been doing fairly regular exercise throughout my pregnancy.

FraggleRock77 · 14/08/2013 13:50

Thanks S77 i will have a look x

ovenbun · 14/08/2013 14:44

I like erin o brien, combined with some gym n swim each week its helping me feel more human :) i have davina ready for the late stages :)

kontaktmer · 10/10/2013 05:37

I really like the sessions you can view online or stream from www.downloadyogavideos.com. They're not terribly cardio, but anyway! Lovely to use! Yoga always makes me feel better about myself and the world in general:-)

Sunnysummer · 10/10/2013 05:49

My favourite by a mile was Sara Haley's Expecting More - it has a whole suite of workouts, including 2 x strength, 2 x cardio and 2 x yoga / chill out ones, and a timetable for over the pregnancy, so you stay active and safe but also don't get tired of doing the same ones. I was quite fit before getting pregnant and this is the only one that I felt was fun and challenging enough not to bore me to tears by the third trimester :-) It definitely worked - the midwives commented on my ab strength (possibly my first and last ab compliment, as I'm not exactly the washboard abs type!) and I was up and running outdoors again at 8 weeks.

I also had the 10 minute Pilates one, which was okay but I found a bit rushed, the Bar Method, which felt a bit easy until the last trimester (though I really enjoyed it then), and Tracy Anderson, whose oddly smirky delivery and back-hurting workouts I hated with a fiery burning passion. Smile

dakadare · 15/10/2013 12:20

I have used the prenatal class from Live Yoga Life. It is downloaded to your iPhone so you can do your class anywhere. The classes are only around $9.00 so they are cheap to buy.
The class is very high quality and run by professional teachers.

Have a look at it here at

www.yogastretches.net
Enjoy!

AngieNC · 21/10/2013 21:38

Denise Richards seems to have good results with an abs belt.
See video at: easiestworkout.net/denise-richards/

Cheers.
