Ok so basically I really want to know what a water birth is like because I think I want one when I go into labour, the only problem is.. I know that sometimes when giving birth women poop themselves :/ and this would be ok apart from the fact that when you're in the water the poop would then float to the surface and to be honest I think I'd die of shame if my partner seen that.. :/ I know it seems a little childish but I don't even like farting infront of him, is there anything I can do to help myself here??

Lol, if its gonna happen it will happen, from what I hear the midwives have a little sieve Grin and whip it away

If you 'went' on the bed he would see it there too and it wouldn't be as quickly removed :)

Kayshields · 03/07/2013 21:37

I know but on the bed it would be concealed amongst blood and all sorts so I guess its not as noticeable lol

I just had a water birth (which was amazing, soooo much better than dry land), and honestly once in full blown labour you won't care. For what its worth I didn't poo during my labour so you might not!

^ is right you might not, however, might be best to keep your oh around your head u till baby's head is out, as baby's head clears out your back end on the way down, which is when midwives discreetly whip it away, they won't leave it on the bed love :) x

is this your first, by any chance?

dinkystinky · 03/07/2013 21:44

I had a water birth with ds2 - no poo in the pool I'm pleased to report!

Kayshields · 03/07/2013 21:49

Nope its my second, but the first birth was on a bed and I didn't poop :) but yeah there's only so long you can get away with it lol

Ill try to keep him up by my head but tbh he's really interested in how it all works and wants to get a good look Blush

Well if your in the pool he won't be able to see much of the business end as it will be under water and you won't be lying down.

I have had two water births.....I pooped in both....I was kind of aware of it but happy.....ish.....as knew baby would be coming out behind the crap! Sorry! Reason only vaguely aware due to gas n air that I.would.not.let.go.of. I saw the midwife with sieve vaguely but height of contraction and the gas and air soon distracted me, I think they must be equally as discreet with it when happens in pool as when on a bed....or the floor etc!
Water birth is great, it really really helps the pain as it takes your weight and is so easy to move, I just leaned on all floors once things got intense, like on side of pool where there was a ledge and handles and held the mouthpiece for the gas n air and dh arms! But you can sort of sway a bit and make small movements that would be I assume exhausting when taking your own weight unsupported by water if on a bed in similar position?.....if I was on a bed I would have been too tired to do all fours but I found this brilliant for pushing and making room baby get out. Good luck and go with the flow.....with dd2 I stayed fully clothed outside pool until quite late in proceedings as I didn't know till end if I wanted in or not and that was after having a water birth already. Am preg now with dc3 and have no birth plan other than poss pool and in birth centre in hosp if stay low risk so i need option but knows may not get in!
