Strong period pains at 35 weeks?

Teaandflapjacks · 03/07/2013 15:07

Has anyone else had this? They feel like strong period pains in the middle but low down. I have been having braxton hicks on and off a lot too for the last few days. She is breech so wonder if that is related?

I'm 35 weeks too and have been having period pains for the last week or so. Sometimes they can feel pretty strong. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, I'm not sure whether they are braxton hicks or the baby engaging or what. Hopefully someone will be able to enlighten us, I just wanted to let you know you're not the only one!

I can't help but I can sympathise, I'm 34 weeks and having these, especially at night. Baby also seems lower, so breathing is easier but back/pelvis/lower bump is crampy.

greenj1 · 03/07/2013 17:21

35 weeks here and I can symphaise.cramps that sometimes take my breath away, I just had a bath to ease it. Wont be long now til baby is here though...that's my mantra lol!

Gerty1002 · 03/07/2013 17:33

I'm 31+5 and have had these the past 24 hours... went in to be monitored this morning as I hadn't felt baby move as much as usual, and on my way there had a really awful one that made me almost black out! That was scary. All was fine with baby though and have been told to go back in if pain comes back that strong. Midwife said it's probably just my body telling me to slow down, as mine seem to be aggravated by walking.

If you're really worried just ring the midwife, they won't mind and it will put your mind at rest. I'm convinced the worrying contributed to my episode this morning.

Have had similar since 30 weeks, git told it was gravity and the weight of baby, bump and my general excess weight pulling down on lower stomach muscles. I find itgets worse if I need the loo irrespective of a no 1 or 2

If ur worried ring mw or triage

Thanks ladies - i was sure if was nothing to worry about, just makes me feel better knowing other people are in the same boat. greenj baths have been my saviour when it gets really bad.

I also keep thinking 'not long now' and have got a long awaited bottle in the fridge for when she's here - I expect I'll have half a sip and pass out. Grin

Hello ladies, I'm 37 weeks as have had these pains since 34 weeks. They have gradually gotten worse and the other day got so bad, I was crying from the pain. Had to be seen by my midwife and monitored. They are basically contractions however, as long as they are not too regular and close together, they are not the real thing. I have been told though that as mine are becoming more regular, I am likely to go into labour soon. If you are worried ladies, it is always best to call your midwife even if its just for reassurance.

Teaandflapjacks · 03/07/2013 19:39

Thanks Reebok that's really interesting as it mirrors me a bit - I was also in tears the other night and only a bath stopped the pains to some degree. I was woken up by them from between 6-8 am this morning. I will keep a close eye on them, I just wonder what she is up to in there (apart from stomping on my blader) since she is breech I get these very odd rumbling feelings lower down/middle (below belly button) - they aren't painful, just very odd.

If the pain continues, please call your midwife. At least it will put your mind at ease...that's what they are there for.

Wereonourway · 03/07/2013 20:49

This is exactly how I felt at 3-4 cm dilated. I was 34 weeks and trickling waters as well though so kind of knew.

"Proper" contractions didn't start until after I'd been examined

Teaandflapjacks · 03/07/2013 20:53

i am so sorry for the very dense question- but only an internal can check how dilated right? until babies body parts from your vagina you don't 'open' there?

Tea I'm not sure I understand?

I got period pains like you describe for around 12 hours constant.

Midwife examined me as pad showed waters leaking. I was already 4-5 cm then so I was 4-5cm dilated having only had the pains you describe.

It's the cervix which they measure as being open, your vagina probably doesn't open until pushing starts(obviously I wasn't down there so couldn't say for certain lol)

Good luck, maybe just baby lying awkwardly, my ds was back to back so maybe explained the period pain feeling

Teaandflapjacks · 04/07/2013 09:50

Thanks Were that was exactly what I wanted to know! The pains have got worse and I am sure it's nothing but will go to see my Gyn. in a short while to be on the safe side - I called them and they said to come in.

Thanks all again!

Oh these have just started for me, (30+5), was hoping it was just a little growth spurt and would stop soon, can't be putting up with it for another 10-12 weeks!

Just wanted to update (thanks these for checking on me!) - back from doctors. Basically I have lost my plug and am fully effaced. I was also working from my dates for EDD which are a week ahead of the scan dates - so doctor told me because my cycle was sometimes irregular before we really must use the scan date which puts me back a week to the scan EDD dates - hence I am just 34 weeks. So now I am on total bed rest and taking magnesium to try and get me safely to 36 weeks. What has happened is she has turned and her head is fully engaged right down in my pelvis - we had a look on the internal scan and I saw her head and the cervix, there is less than 1cm between the two - they are basically touching. The pains are pre labour contractions, which I now have for roughly 4-6 hours out of 24.

I would therefore advise anyone who is worried to def. get checked out as I thought i was just over worrying, but now can see not. Hopefully with the bed rest etc all will be fine, but i can't see me going to term. Good thing is I was very prepared up front and have got all the baby stuff sorted upfront so it's just a case of lying down and watching a lot of DVD's!

xxx

Fingers crossed little one stays in a while longer! Just you relax and obey drs orders! X

Gerty1002 · 04/07/2013 21:12

Wow, so glad you got checked! I'll definitely be going back if I get anymore bad pains, certainly don't want any appearances from baby just yet as only 32 weeks.

Good luck and I hope your LO stays put a little longer!

Reebok · 04/07/2013 22:05

Wow good that you got yourself checked Tea. Make sure you take it easy and hopefully lil one will stay put for a few more weeks.
