So I'm very excited but also nervous.
I have booked to go to Rhodes in a few weeks time (ill be 30 weeks pg). All I know is that I need to get a fit to fly letter from my gp but I don't really know what else to consider??? This is my first pregnancy and I feel a bit vulnerable going away late on. Is there anything anyone recommends I take with me? Do I need maternity swimwear?? Please help Smile

Plenty of sunscreen, stay in the shade as much as you can if its very hot. Drink loads of bottled water (I think in Greece it's recommended that you brush your teeth with bottled rather than tap water) and have a lovely relaxing time!

Oh, and check that your travel insurance will cover you if you go into labour, and will also cover the baby if born out there :)

Decent travel insurance and definitely wear flight socks - I only went to Spain at 29 weeks and the 2 hour flight was enough for my feet and ankles to swell up.

Also, I don't mean to scare you, but I asked my MW to sign my FTF certificate and she told me she wasn't allowed and it had to be done by my GP. I had the shock of my life when I found out my GP charges £120 for a consultation to determine whether you are fit to fly, and a further £35 to actually sign the certificate the fucking robbing bastard. Shock

Also bring your maternity notes with you. It's just in case something happens and all your details and reports can be given to the medical staff.

As previous posters have said, check out your travel insurance to make sure it covers you. If you havent notified them of pregnancy, youd best do it now and see what they say, as some insurers won't cover you if pg.

Enjoy your holiday!

I was 23 weeks pregnant when I went on holiday to Greece a few weeks ago and aside from all the v useful points above about travel insurance, compression stockings etc, I'd recommend also being incredibly careful about the sun. I wore a bikini as the maternity swimsuit I'd ordered hadn't turned up (and the top definitely didn't fit quite as well as it had previously, haha) but even with factor 30 on my belly and a thick, dark tshirt over the top, my tummy was somehow still pink at the end of every trip to the beach - with pregnancy, my skin has just become extremely sensitive to the sun.

That and be prepared for the crazed enthusiasm with which you'll be greeted by every Greek lady - they apparently LOVE pregnant women Grin

I travelled to Italy while pg with DS1 and to Greece this pregnancy returning just before the airline's 34 week cutoff. Definitely recommend going but as others have said use flight socks, drink plenty and watch what you eat a bit more carefully. Check the airline policy on who does FTF certificate-I only realised 2 days before leaving that they wanted a doctor to sign it not just midwife. Check your travel insurance-I googled insurance while pregnant and took out a policy for the trip which would cover birth and baby as well as reasonable expenses for DH staying etc. you'll also be covered in part by the EHIC scheme.
Have a great time!
