When did you first see the midwife?

Hi all, I'm a first timer here so sorry if this has been asked before! I'm 6 weeks pregnant and saw my GP a week ago. She said she would refer me to the midwives at local hospital (in Glasgow)
I haven't heard anything yet so was just wondering how long it normally takes for the referral to come through. Can't quite believe I'm pregnant so am keen to see midwife and be assured its real and everything is OK!

Thanks!

R

Congrats!

10 weeks for booking in - was sent an appt in the post about three weeks before.

Had first scan two weeks later (booked at that appt).

Congratulations.

10 weeks booking in here too, then 12 weeks for a scan. I self referred to the midwives (just the way things are done here) so made the appointments when I called. If you don't have a letter by 8/9 weeks I'd chase.

Yes, your first appointment won't be for a few weeks yet, but if you hear nothing do chase. My GP promised to refer me but over a fortnight later I spoke to the midwife unit over the phone who told me they hadn't received anything. Luckily they were able to sort out appointment slots for me there and then. (It also transpired that the GP had told me a load of rubbish about when my first scan was due so I was glad to bypass him there on afterwards!)

Didn't see a doctor, straight to the midwife for booking in appointment at 8 weeks.

The surgery just requested that I gave them a urine sample so they could confirm a positive pregnancy test and were then happy to make me the initial midwife appointment.

Congrats :)

I'm not sure when everything's supposed to happen as I was also told by my GP that they'd refer me to a midwife before my 12 week scan... But 12 weeks came and went, and I still hadn't heard anything!

In the end, the hospital took matters into their own hands and made an appointment on my behalf, so make sure you don't end up in the same position and do some chasing way ahead of your 12 week scan!

10 weeks for me.

Annoyingly they came to my house uninvited, and popped a card in. I hadn't told anyone. Not happy!

gamerchick · 03/07/2013 14:10

It was either 8-10 weeks for me. The booking in is all form filling anyway if my memory serves. The scan was the making it real thing.

Thanks so much ladies! Good to have reassurance! As if by magic my apps for obstetrician and scan both came in this morning and will be in week 11 and 12. Very excited!

Hope everyone well and we all get some sunshine this weekend!

Hi,

Glad you got your appointments! I am under consultant care too but make sure you get an appointment with your community midwife too. I have seen both throughout my pregnancy.

I was discharged from our fertility clinic at 9wks5days, then had to see my GP for a referral (at 10wks3days). I called the hospital myself to chivvy thing along at got my 12wk scan done at 12w2d last Tues. I'm now on holiday and expect to get my booking in appointment when I'm around 14wks Hmm. All a bit arse about face due to having to wait for the acu discharge, GP being slack with their referral and 3 different parts of the maternity team at hospital not talking to each other!

I've become quite pally with the main booking contact though, as we joined the dots while I was sat in an airport departure lounge!

For me my priority was the 12w scan and checking all was OK there.

Hope your appointments go well!
