bumped my bump :(

I'm 23 weeks and looking for a bit of reassurance (away from home this week so can't see my midwife). My other half was not too well in the night, and was sleeping restlessly, at one point he thrashed over and bumped me hard in the belly with his back, which was quite painful. I'm not bleeding or anything, but am a natural worrier, could it have hurt the baby?

Hi there I'm 22 weeks so just behind you.

The baby is still v well padded and protected in there but if you have any concerns def give your midwife or hospital unit a call. I've had my dogs briefly stand on my tummy and one incident with my horse early on where she squished me against a fence. Didnt have any issues after those and my boy is grand.

But call for reassurance and that might make you feel better Smile

I'm sure everything Is ok, baby has a lot of fluid surrounding them. If you have any bleeding ring Dr.but I'm sure all is ok in there :)

Hi there. I'm sure it will be fine. If he bumped you with his back, rather than his elbow for example, I'd be very surprised if this could harm the baby. Had he knocked you out of bed that might be more cause for alarm.

When I was about 7 months pregnant I was in a car accident (scary but no injuries) and we did get quite a bump when our car went into the lamp post, making the seatbelt jolt across my bump. I spoke to my midwife who said that the amniotic fluid helps to absorb the shock waves and the baby tends to just sort of slosh out of the way IYSWIM.

If you aren't bleeding and you can still feel the baby moving I'm sure it's fine, but if you are really worried then call NHS direct.

Hello everyone, thank you so much for your reassuring replies. Squished by a horse and a car accident - they really put the thing in perspective! Just glad you and the littleys are all ok! Baby has just had ten minutes of kicking too, so am much more relaxed now. Thank you :)

Hi baby will be fine in there it's more hard falls to be concerned with. I constantly bump my bump and have an energetic dog who just doesn't get being calm in the morning all is well. :)

ForTheLoveOfSocks · 03/07/2013 12:50

Like everyone else has said, you should be fine. The only thing you may need to chat to the midwife about is if your blood group is rhesus negative. If you have an bump that causes a small internal bleed may affect you if you have future children.

Personally I would contact your midwife just for some reasurance

SeriousStuff · 03/07/2013 12:52

You'll be fine - I've had the dog knock into me and even hit my bump with a dumbell while exercising! The baby is very well protected.

Fairydogmother · 03/07/2013 12:56

its impossible not to worry about things OP so better to ask!

if you havent seen it already you are most welcome to join us on the november bus - its in the antenatal threads Grin

I'm sure you're fine, but if you are very worried call the FAU to get checked out. Dc1 is only a small toddler md always accidentally kicking and whacking my bump and everything's fine.

Are you still feeling movement okay?

PeterParkerSays · 03/07/2013 12:59

You should be fine. I was about the same gestation when I tripped and fell in the street. Bump was fine.

Is it worth swapping sides with OH so you can sleep with bump away from him, if he's a rough sleeper? You could also sleep with a pillow, maybe one of those V shape ones, under you and around bump to help protect it if you're worried.

chestnut100 · 03/07/2013 13:02

You will be fine OP, however I wouldn't so easily accept the "baby is well padded" train of thought (or want others in future to). I bumped my bump on a supermarket trolley and the hospital were absolutely insistent I came in for monitoring. I was kept for a few hours after seeing a consultant and having a long trace. You really should seek medical advice if the bump was hard enough to concern you. Let the professionals put your mind at rest Smile

EugenesAxe · 03/07/2013 13:05

I expect you'll be fine. I tripped and fell onto my front (handbag and bump) when quite far gone - I dunno, maybe 28-30 weeks? - and was OK. Ironically I was running to get to my midwife appointment on time... so at least I could ask her about it when I got there. She just said to take it easy and go to the monitoring place in hospital if I was at all worried later.

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who replied - I did manage to get hold of a midwife local to where we are staying yesterday, and they checked the heartbeat etc, all is well :)

good news Smile

Glad baby has been checked and is ok. Someone has already mentioned the resus negative problems but I'm guessing/ hoping you'd know by now if you were. If you're anything like me, though I do admit I am a truly clumsy oaf you'll be banging your bump a lot more as it gets bigger so try not to worry. If it is at all reassuring I accidental scalded my bump, fell on it twice, fell down stairs as well as constantly knocking it and bruising it by not realising just how big I was and thinking I could squeeze through pre pregnancy sized gaps. I also had a hairdryer blow up on me and practically electrocute me I had entry and exit burns on my arm! Despite all this baby was aways fine. As I am resus negative though i was at the hospital practically every week for anti d... They all knew me by sight by the time I had my ds and despite my utter clumsiness is a very healthy 18'mth old now :) can't say my clumsiness has improved at all though!

youaintallthat · 04/07/2013 10:06

Oops posted too soon meant to say at the end though it's always worth getting bump checked after any knock or fall just to be sure everything is ok though :)
