Whooping cough jab advice

According to my mum I didn't get the whooping cough vaccine as a baby as it wasn't recommended for babies with the lung problems I had. I asked my midwife if she knew whether it would be ok for me to have it now but she didn't know. I asked my doctor's surgery this too and if what was being offered in pregnancy was just a booster and if it was suitable if I hadn't had the vaccine previously. They said no I couldn't have the booster and would have to ask my midwife. Unfortunately, I'm in the process of moving house and am currently between houses for a few weeks and don't have a new midwife to go to. Just wondering on the off chance, whether anyone knows anything about this.... Thanks.

I don't know about the jab, but could you ask them to test your immunity as a first step. If you have whooping cough immunity ( and you may well do) then you don't need to worry. I would have thought given your particular set of circumstances they would do that on the NHS, but if they don't you can usually get it done privately.

I think you're better off calling NHS direct or a GP surgery for advise.
