Rather you than me blah blah

I find it v v difficult, because we have a lovely dd six, but our ds died shortly after he was born.
So we have been through a lot and this is not an easy pg

I guess its just mindless small talk but I find it upsettig as I've had a lot more sleepless nights over ds than I ever have with dd.
And a few nappies is really the least if our worries

I guess I just don't know how to respond when.people make these comments

I have got some comments like that from my SILs and while I don't think they were having a dig at me, I've replied that at least at the baby stage their needs are simple; babies want to be fed, clean, loved etc rather than when they get older and you have more challenges like ensuring that they grow up to be decent, worry about who their friends are, hope they do well at school and that they are happy. I put off having children for a long time and it wasn't the baby stage that ever put me off. As parents we become responsible for shaping the minds of little human beings and that doesn't get easier as they get older. Hopefully it will continue to be as rewarding.

I didn't find my baby to be simple at all. He couldn't speak, and cried for apparently no reason. This is at odds with all of my human interactions thus far in life!

Parenting presents lifelong challenges, but the baby days are for many an utter shock. I personally couldn't do it again, but everybody is different and I know lots of people love that stage.

they are not real friends, just school mum friends

I am normally a complete bitch and say something along the lines of "well I can understand why you would feel that way (whilst nodding towards their children) but I have always found my children as babies an enjoyable experience and I am lucky that I have a supportive husband.

Then I watch gleefully as they go away wondering if I have just realised what I have said about their children and partners!

one of those comments that sting the more you think about it
