baby back to back at 35 weeks

I'm 35 weeks today and for the last 3 weeks the baby has been posterior and 1/5 engaged. I know that in theory she can turn any time, even just before or during labour, but does anyone have any experience of this?

When I was in labour with DS all the pain was in my back, and it was quite unbearable. I wonder now whether he was also back to back but no one mentioned it to me?

my ds was back to back and labour was agony comparef to dd who was the correct way round. my consultant told me to bounce on birthing ball from 25 weeks onwards. any chance you could try that?

Myliferocks · 27/06/2013 22:45

3 of my 5 were back to back. They weren't any more painful than my 2 who weren't.

Yes! Both of my babies have been back to back, pretty much the whole pregnancies. Neither turned until late in labour. I bounced, I walked and I sat in an ungainly bum-in-the air, chest in the floor position for weeks, but they didn't budge.

Delivery was fine because they had turned during labour. The thing I noticed was with ds2 I really wanted to push before I was fully dilated and apparently this is quite normal in back to back labours, so maybe worth remembering that?

Good luck!

Ds1 was normal positioning. Ds2+3 were b2b. They wouldn't budge. Tried bouncing on birthing ball for hours!, leaning on birthing ball on all fours, leaning forwards while sat on a chair etc
Didn't move in labour either unfortunately. Ds2 was v long labour and assisted delivery, not really any more painful than ds1.
Ds3 was the quickest labour out of the 3, and the most excruciating back pain in the world.

So just because baby's b2b it doesn't mean it will definitely be more painful, or assisted.
Fingers crossed baby moves for you

Both mine back to back and turned during labour.Use the birthing ball-on all fours-lean over it.They also reccommend plenty of walking and the midwife suggested walking up and down the stairs sideways.Check out spinning babies.com.Best of luck!

I was never told about it on the first strangely enough ...not sure whether first was so painful because she was back to back or whether it was because it was my first time giving birth but the second definitely turned as the labour was only two hours and much much easier

Thanks everyone. It's reassuring to hear that some of you had fairly normal labours, as far as the pain levels are concerned... And also good to know that there really is no rhyme or reason as to whether they will turn or when. I'm sitting on the ball, spending time on all fours, leaning forward, etc. I'm just going to hope for the best.

Both of mine were back to back. Nowt shifted them. They were happy there. It's not an abnormal position and it's not a guarantee of trouble or extra pain. My first was painful, second utterly painless. Same position. Don't worry unduly about it now. You can try the tricks and they might work. If they don't, then don't assume it means anything for delivery.

Congratulations and keep an open mind. If all else fails, the drugs are quite good I hear.
