Hi,

I have a possible breach. The midwife has booked me into have something called a presentation scan on the 19th July. I am currently 34 + 4 so will be almost 38 weeks by then which worries me.. Is that not too late to wait for a scan?? Has anyone else had to wait that long? Please bear in mind that I do live in London though as this is my first pregnancy so I really don't know what to expect. Is breach normal at my stage, has anyone else had one and had the baby turned before labour or did u need help/c section?

X

You say possible breech, do you know from scan? I ask as I was breech, found out at 30 week scan and I am now 32+3 and found out yesterday by quick scan at doctors that baby has moved.

I think you still have plenty of time for baby to move, my SIL didn't move into position until 36 weeks. So try not to worry about it.

I guess if baby hasn't turned by the scan then they will advise what to do with regards to helping baby turn, but I am not sure.

However I just want to say don't panic, I was really worrying about it and did lots of reading up and lots of sources said still time for baby to turn, and there is for you too.

I was breech from 30 weeks with ds. The mws kept saying he'd turn. I had a scan at 38 weeks to confirm (after they'd refuse to believe me when I said he was still breech - I insisted on the scan). He was footling breech. ECV was unsuccessful (I had a terrible chest infection at the time and could barely breath. I asked them to stop) He was born by elcs a week later. I think he was always destined to be that way. Nothing we did would turn him. He was definitely that way from early on, I think he got his head stuck under my ribs and that was it :)

I did a lot of the things they suggest on this website Spinning Babies... Definitely worth a try. The baby still has time to turn.

Hi Susie you have a few options to try and turn the baby... Reflexology and acupuncture can work. Also google 'optimal foetal position' as you'll find some stuff you can do yourself to help (getting on your hands and knees swaying your hips etc). Additionally your consultant or midwife may offer to turn the baby (why don't you call them and ask specifically about this rather than wait till your appointment?) - it apparently works in 50% of cases.

I guess there's always the chance the baby may turn back to breech - sometimes they are just comfy bottom down! And often they turn late on anyway so you may well find that everything is okay. You still have some time but I would suggest you look into your options sooner rather than later.

My LO has been breech since about 24 weeks and I'm now 38+6. I was told at 33 weeks by the sonographer that she didn't think the baby would turn - not sure of that was to do with how little space she had. But she was right.

In any case I decided not to try and turn her and to just let things be and go with whatever she wanted, she seems to be happy and comfy bottom down. And I'm booked in for a csection net week.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Smile

Hi, thanks for all your comments :) Spoke to midwife yesterday as I was concerned that 38 weeks (I am currently 35 today!) seemed a long way off. I read that the bigger the baby the harder it is to turn so thought it a bit strange that they wanted to confirm at 38 not sooner. Like u say though it might be coz there is still plenty of time to turn. I am trying not to worry now and accept that if its meant to be it will be, tbh I'm not convinced the baby even is in breach and the midwife said to me yesterday 'we don't have X-ray eyes' so it could just be a false alarm i just worry that they don't take it that seriously. Also the midwife told me they won't do the ect or whatever it is is called till 37/38 weeks so in that case I can see why they are not bringing me in for a scan when they didn't do things earlier. Just gonna continue with my walking and occasional bouncing on gym ball and try not to fret about it xxxxx

I went for a ANC appointment at about 29 weeks and the hospital midwife said my baby was breech. I wasn't convinced as baby had been head down since my anomaly scan at 21 weeks and 4D scan at 27 weeks but I guessed it was possible it could have turned.

Anyway, my community midwife earlier this week said they felt baby was head down and a growth scan on Friday, did indeed reveal the baby was head down and not breech.

The sonographer said that midwife's often get it wrong when it comes to presentation... so anything is possible, lol

Hi - my DD was breech but I didn't find out until I was 40+2 at my midwifes appointment! She had previously told me at about 35 weeks that she was engaged and the right way round, then suddenly changed her mind and sent me for a scan, which confirmed my DD was breech and probably had been the whole time!

I had a C section a few days later and my DD was perfect (and still is 2 1/2 years down the line).

So please don't worry if your baby doesn't turn, sometimes they just start being stubborn from a very young age Smile
