Any indicators that low anterior placenta has loved up?

Random question of the day for anyone who had a low-lying anterior placenta at 20 weeks - when it moved up, could you 'feel' the difference?

My placenta was 8mm from os at 20 weeks, but, despite a load of faffing and incorrect information, they don't rescan here unless placenta is actually covering os at 20 weeks.

Am slightly worried by this laissez faire attitude, given that if 95% of placentas migrate up, that suggests that 5% don't, and obviously I was some way off being clear for a VB at 20 weeks.

I thought that I would be able to feel the difference, ie would finally feel movement way down south, but that hasn't been the case. Plus, my baby has a habit of lying head down with back to the left of my bump, then rolling around so that its back is on my right - but via my belly button, ie it's not going the back way.

Surely if the placenta had moved upwards, it would now be in the way and therefore make this impossible?

Am also slightly concerned that baby is still not engaged (36+3) and I know that a low placenta can cause this.

Tis a daft worry, but would love any insights - anyone 'felt' the difference after placenta moved? Anyone had a 'surprise' placenta praevia at term following no follow-up scan?

TIA

I had a low lying anterior placenta at 20 weeks. I had a 3d scan at 26 weeks and it hadn't loved up and then another scan at 35 weeks and it had loved up.
I had no idea. I felt no different.

I like the idea of a loved up placenta!

Comforting that it didn't feel any different - had expected to start feeling movements lower down.

I'm half thinking about a private reassuarance scan, but put off by a) the cost and b) after holding out this long, I don't want to find out the sex and I'd be way too tempted!

I've absolutely no advice for you, brave, but was attracted by the loved up placenta and thought I'd wave hello! 35 weeks here with a stubbornly upside-down wee one - what a long way we've come, eh?

Hope you manage to get some reassurance about placental placement somehow - enough else to keep in your mind on the day without this additional worry.

For what it's worth, I've got an anterior placenta the location of which has been pointed out to me from the outside during scans - I've never felt any difference in terms of kicks, squirms, etc. in that region to any other.

Sorry brave, not helpful, but loving the idea of you having a loved up placenta GrinGrin x

Fragglewump · 27/06/2013 17:36

Mine was low but moved up - they checked during subsequent scans...

LittleMilla · 27/06/2013 17:39

Just come home from scan and my anterior placenta has moved up.

Feeling really excited about baby coming soon...although I'm sure this will disipate over the coming weeks as i get more fed up!

BraveLilBear · 27/06/2013 17:42

Lol - am regretting the whole 'typing while having a conversation in real life' thing right now!

Thanks Janey... and Beans glad to know all still going good! I have a weird void of movement where either baby doesn't kick me, or I just can't feel it, hence why I thought there would be some inherent alert system I guess!

When you say upside-down, do you mean head first or tail first? Fingers crossed it's assumed the correct position (or will get moving pronto)!

Great news Fraggle and LittleMilla - can you feel any difference? Like are you suddenly getting kicked where you weren't before?

He's head up, the dear little soul, and showing no signs of assuming a more appropriate position. Still, I've heard very nice things about planned c-sections. So long as I get a healthy baby out at the end and I'm also ok, I'll count it as a job well done. Smile

I felt him drop down in to my pelvis Grin. Ds1 was breech so I never really experienced proper dropping but this one certainly has. Also, my MW was able to hear where my placenta was when listening to baby's heartbeat.

And the kicks are mental. I also get a lot of twisting and pulverising bladder feelings too.

Can you tell I'm sort of read for him to come out now!?

Good luck x

Fragglewump · 27/06/2013 22:28

I didn't notice any different feelings - sensitive soul me!!

I have 3DC, and had grade 4 (as bad as it gets) placenta praevia with DC2&3.

DD1 was transverse until about 35 weeks, but as I had already been scanned at 34 weeks and confirmed still full pp, we knew I was a CS so no-one was bothered.

DD2, I asked at 13 week scan if she could see the placenta, when told no, meaning it was top or bottom we suspected pp again, confirmed at 20 weeks, rescanned numerous times at 34 weeks (and in between on various admissions) and had an MRI to look for placenta acreta (where placenta grows into the scar of a previous CS).

I can't say if you can feel the placenta move as mine never did!

BraveLilBear · 28/06/2013 11:52

Haha LittleMilla not at all Wink

Can definitely feel my one trying to drop I think - it'll occasionally do a huge bum in ribs, head in bladder stretch, but it never seems to drop in as head appears to be on the lip of the pelvis on the left (can feel it on my leg if I cross my legs).

A nice calm C Section sounds good Beans - fingers crossed!

Good luck all...
