When are you offered a Sweep?

I'm 38+2. Very uncomplicated pregnancy so far. Had a routine appointment with mw today and she didnt really say much and asked me to make an appointment for 40w. I asked if i would be likely to have a Sweep at that appointment and she said no, they usually leave it to 41 weeks before they will do one. Has anyone else been routinely offered one earlier? Sorry if you can sense the desperation!

My MW she start booking sweeps after the 40w appointment

My midwife wouldn't sweep until about 40 + 3 I think it was. She definitely wouldn't discuss it until after 40 weeks. sorry :( It didn't work anyway, DS was born 41 + 1 in the end naturally.

I've got sweep booked for my due date (a week today). However this is dc4 for me and all 3 have been overdue so far so I think that is why I'm being offered sweep at this stage.

Had a sweep at 41 wks , labour started 2 days later.

Offered a sweep at 41 weeks here. Mine failed to do anything at all (3rd pg) and was induced at 42 weeks.

Currently 6 months pregnant with DC4 am hoping that this time I will be able to have one at 39 or 40 weeks. Not holding breath though.

The NHS standard is 40wks with first pregnancy 41wks with 2nd +. This can be changed but usually needs to be done through a consultant.

I was offered a sweep at 40w - midwife was very gung ho. Said she always does for first babies because they're always late. I didn't have DD until a week and a second sweep later (second sweep at 41w).

It was fucking dreadful, I must say! bloody uncomfortable.

IndecisivePramBuyer81 · 25/06/2013 18:31

Are there any reasons they'll let you have one a bit earlier? 39wks on Sat with a consultant appt Monday and intending to beg if need be! Am sick of being pregnant - have had SPD which is now making driving as well as walking difficult and was hospitalised last wkend with a bad kidney infection and dehydration. Doing all I can at home to encourage him out already!

Just seems ta vary borough to borough here in London. Hackney, where I had DD, induce by 40+10 in order to have a baby by 42w. Other trusts let women g o two weeks over then start talking induction. Am sure this is correlated with my early sweep - they still want to avoid inductions.

If that made sense! Blush

I had a sweep with my last two at about 39 weeks, but was already on the MAU in early labour on both occasions. Not planned, but was being examined, MW offered and I thought, 'while you're up there...' Wink. I didn't find it particularly more uncomfortable than the standard examinations, but I was already slightly dilated. No idea if it made any difference, but it didn't slow anything down!

Have been offered a sweep at my next appointment where I will be 40 weeks...this is dc 3 for me...but when I brought it up at my visit yesterday she was having none of it just told me from 40 weeks on, and that babs was still too high up to do sweep

Pants82 · 26/06/2013 16:30

I have been routinely booked in for a sweep on my due date. First baby.
