I am 30 weeks and have been having them a lot for the last 3-4 weeks. For a week I was getting them everyday but mostly just in the evening, then I have had a couple of days where I was getting them for maybe 4 hours solid and they were actually getting quite frequent. On Saturday night they were so strong that they were waking me up. This is my second pregnancy so I'm fortunate in being able to tell then difference between BH and the real thing. However, before 37 weeks you should get checked out if you are getting more than 4 an hour or if they get painful. In those cases they could be a sign that you are going into labour although its more than likely not, they would want to double check.

I would advise resting as they can be brought on by doing too much and also make sure you are drinking plenty of water because being dehydrated makes them a lot worse. It is difficult to explain but whilst they are uncomfortable they shouldn't be actually painful, if they feel like period pains and the pain is getting stronger then you need to call your midwife and go get checked

I'm 33 weeks and been getting them for at least a month. They are not painful, but some are very uncomfortable and stop me in my tracks or take my breath away. If you are finding yours painful, perhaps have a quick chat with your midwife?

I'm getting them all the time - they are a right nuisance!

31 weeks is about right not too soon at all, was around 27wk with ds1, 16wks with ds2 and 13wks with ds3, I'm 33+2 now and mine are really uncomfy. As a previous poster said been active makes them worse, putting the washing in even does me lol.

If they do turn pretty painful and they are a regular timing do ring your midwife to get checked out xx

I been getting braxton hicks since 16 weeks and can get pretty painful. MW said they can be caused by over exertion or by dehydration. Said if they continue when I am moving about to call for advice. 26 wks now and getting pretty painful

i've been having mine since 17 weeks - 25 weeks now.

mine started due to an undetected UTI causing my bladder to get so inflamed that the contractions started. it might be worth gettign this checked out, just in case.

having said that, I am UTI free now and i stll get them pretty much every hour!
