Elective c-section dates

I'm due dd2 on the 5th November and I am wondering when do they give c-section dates out now?
When I had dd1 in 2007 I was around 34-35 weeks when I got my date but I'm not sure if they still do it this early.
It is dd1s birthday on the 1st November and I need to sort out arrangements with her gps for her celebrations if I am still going to be in the hospital and I don't really want to leave it until a week before for them to plan her party.
Also I will need to arrange childcare for after school for both of my dc if i am still in hospital and I don't really like giving people a weeks notice when they have their own things to do.

I know it's not really good reasons, I just like to be organised and I really don't like messing people around at such short notice.

Good job you're having a c-section then...!

I don't know how soon they give out dates, but my ELCS was at 39+4, so on that basis you wouldn't even be in hospital yet, let alone out again by 1 November. I'd be bringing the birthday celebrations forward if I were you anyway- you don't want a tiny newborn and a birthday party to worry about.

Thank you for replying Smile

I am hoping I get one earlier than that, I had dd1 at 38 weeks due to me having a 9lb 14oz ds before and they didn't want dd to be that size for some reason Hmm

I think having a party earlier is definitely an option I should discuss with dp. I would leave the party altogether but dd usually has a Halloween party every year and I don't want her to feel pushed out because a new baby has come along Sad

What do you think people do when they aren't having a c-section? Confused
I'd just have the party a month before your due date, and a small celebration at home on/around the day.

And chill... You've months to worry about this!

Pre-39 weeks is definitely the exception rather than the rule these days so I wouldn't rely on that.

And yes, you have more than 4 months to worry about it!

I'm be getting my c section date at my 36 week appointment with my obstetric team. Standard time for elective sections is around 39 weeks now.

Don't stress too much - DP was born during his big sister's birthday party. The celebrations continued as planned whilst his mum nipped off to the hospital.

I am due on 5th and they gave me a date for the pre-assessment clinic at the day before 39 weeks with a view to section the day after However, sister had the same and hers then got pushed back to 40 weeks. They do it late as poss.

Unless you have specific concerns that indicate an early section, I'd have the party at 37-38 weeks. More recent research has shown that there are slight health risks with being born early full term (pre 39 weeks) so as others say, they won't do it earlier without a good reason. Of course, you may go into slightly labour and everything could change again....

My friend has got an ELCS coming up and she was told at 34 weeks x

Writerwannabe83 · 25/06/2013 19:56

And I meant to say that when she has the ELCS she will be 38 weeks gestation.

They offered to give date at 34w but then said would give at 36w.
I have multiple chronic health problems that are very debilitating, and I take a lot of medication including in my pregnancy. Because it wasn't life threatening they wouldn't do my c section any earlier than 39 weeks.

hazeyjane · 25/06/2013 20:36

There is an increase in the risk of breathing difficulties in the baby for each week earlier than 40 weeks, so they should aim for the section to be as close to 39 weeks as possible.

NewChoos · 26/06/2013 08:06

I was given a date at 35 weeks. Agree - they will want you to be 39 weeks for baby's lung development.
