Baby bath bubbles?

I have read conflicting advice - do you need to buy special bath bubbles for newborns, or do you wash them just using water for the first few weeks?

water is fine

they dont need bubble bath... ever

marzipananimal · 23/06/2013 15:37

just water. we bought some bath stuff before DS was born, still haven't finished it and he's nearly 3!

TrudyW · 23/06/2013 15:43

Just water, I have really sensitive skin so don't use anything myself so in case my son had got my rubbish skin, I just stuck to water for him too.

He's 3 now and we've only recently introduced some bubbles for a bit of fun at bathtime. We managed without baby wipes for quite a while too, cotton wool and water worked fine for a good while then its just inevitable u will need wipes!

nannyl · 23/06/2013 22:46

not inevitable that you will need wipes

DD is 21m and i have never ever bought a pack yet Wink

i use cloth wipes (and cloth nappies) and have flannels for hands / faces which i just chuck in the washing machine ready to be washed in what ever is washed next (except nappies which are always washed by themselves)

I have always used johnsons bedtime bath wash, and just used a little as bubbles, makes everything smell scrummy :) x

poocatcherchampion · 24/06/2013 07:52

no bubbles here - too much for her skin

and another one yet to buy wipes. we were given a pack once and they sit in the drawer. way to chemically for me, let alone my baby.

she is 15mo

Just water.. You can pop olive oil in if your little one gets dry skin.
We use water wipes which are free from chemicals.

gertrudestein · 24/06/2013 09:53

fab, that's another thing I can strike off the shopping list then!

Sorry to jump on with a question on someone else's post.....but here I go

If you dont need wipes, do you need to use talc or is there a suitable non-chemical alternative??

nannyl · 24/06/2013 13:20

i have never used talc either.

i think talcum powder is positively NOT recommended for babies as they can breathe it in or something?

I use cloth wipes dipped in water, then rung outm and thats it. (or flannels and water for faces)

She has also never been touched by anything Johnsons (or own brand equivalent) or anything at all with Sodium Laurthyl sulpahte (SLS)

poocatcherchampion · 24/06/2013 14:18

we use cj carcass cleaner spray with water. its a soap free soapy thing Grin - technical me!!

JollyShortGiant · 24/06/2013 14:30

I've just cut up a very cheap bath sheet from Tesco into 30 odd bits. I'm going to use them as re-usable wipes when DC2 arrives. We'll mostly be using disposable nappies but I think this will be a good alternative to cotton wool.

DS is 2.2 and has a bath with bubbles once a week. His skin isn't happy with any more often than that. We didn't start using the bubble bath until last autumn and it was more to make bath time a little more fun than anything else.

Xmasbaby11 · 24/06/2013 17:14

Babies don't need soap or bubbles for weeks - even then, you can leave it. DD is 18m and rarely uses bubble bath as she has mild eczema.
