I had an induction then water birth with dc3 but my waters did not break until I was in the pool. Only advice is discuss with your midwife.

With dc1 my waters broke first and contractions started about 12 hours later I had to have iv antibiotics. Baby was back to back and labour was slow and long and I chose an epidural.

Also meant to say best wishes - however it happens you are going to have a baby in the next day or so! Keep as mobile as you can - gravity is your friend. Don't get too fixed on plans and be fluid. There are no prizes for childbirth and anyway you get through it is just fine.

good luck

are you aware that AIMS guidelines are to wait up to 96 hours (with nothing foreign up there and no baths etc etc) and monitor your temperature and look for any signs of infection.

Lots of hospitals have anything from a 18hour - 48 hour policy, but some still have 96 hours as per the actual guidelines...

so if you dont want to be induced yet you dont have to be.

(95% of people go into natural labour with 95 hours of waters breaking)

however if you have had anything up there (fingers etc, swabs, or examinations then infection risks increase) so best bet is to not allow anything up and see what happens as per the guidelines if you want to.

Good luck what ever happens

Im 40 weeks today....
should my waters break (last time they didnt break until 1min before DD was born) I will be continuing my plan to homebirth for the following 96 hours and giving birth in my pool

If I'm honest, I am 5 days overdue, I am enormous, the baby is enormous, and I am ready now. I'm quite happy to be induced, really, but it does feel strange knowing that I will soon be in labour!

I've had 2 inductions due to
Meconium and they were both long but I got through them....currently waiting for dc3 to announce his/her arrival!! Good luck

Good luck Smile

i would love to know i will soon be in labour rather than hope i will be!

My waters broke on a Friday 4am, nothing progressed so was induced and baby was born 5.20am on the Sunday.

I had an epidural so most of the labour was relatively pain free.

Good luck with everything!

I was the same as you, induced because my waters went. It really is what you make of it. My midwives were more than happy for me to stay mobile while hooked up to the monitors (well as mobile as I could be). I wanted to go on the gym ball but I had a weird shaped bump and the monitor strap just kept pinging off and in the end I got so stressed with it I was more than happy to chill on the bed! Smile

One of the best pieces of advice I was given was to see every contraction as being one step closer to meeting your baby, and it helped so much. Sometimes the pain can become too much, but don't panic! You'll cope and you'll get through it fine and by remaining focused and in control (even if you are moaning/mooing/screaming) you'll find the whole thing a lot easier.

Oh and gas and air will very quickly become your best friend! I still want some of that for home (you know, just relaxing in the evening) sixteen months later Grin

Rowboat · 23/06/2013 16:01

Don't worry. The same happened to me and if. I can do it.anyone can. Plus you get to see your gorgeous little baby very soon! And yes every contraction is a step close. Grin Good luck.

Hi Fairy AFAIK the reason induction is often a lot more painful is because it forces the body to go through all kinds of processes in a few hours, that it would naturally take it days or even weeks to complete. Ie, dilation, loosening of the pelvic ligaments etc, various hormonal changes. However if your water has broken (you don't say if this was following a sweep or anything so I assume not?) it's fairly likely your body will have done a lot of the preparation for labour already. So hopefully an induction shouldn't make it much worse- if they decide you even need one at all.

I went into labour naturally but had to be induced as it wasn't progressing (I was exhausted & contractions weren't strong enough). As far as I was concerned, it really didn't make the pain any worse & it was a better option than EMCS.

HTH. Remember, if the pain gets too bad, ask for pain relief. You are entitled to it. Good luck.

Fairy130389 · 25/06/2013 17:36

Well ladies, contractions started naturally whilst waiting for call to go for induction, 8 hoursish of back to back hell and NO pain relief, baby George arrived safe and sound, 6.45 on sunday morning following natural labour. he is the best thing ever!!!
