Contacting midwife

Hi

I keep reading about people ringing their midwife and my two friends who are also pregnant have a midwife that they see regularly and can call if they have questions.
But I don't have any details for my midwife or even know who it is. I saw one midwife at my booking in appointment and then another at my 16 week appointment. I have an appointment with my consultant at 21 weeks but then nothing until 28 weeks and had nothing since 16 weeks. Is this normal?? My friends seem to see their midwives a lot more often and they have very straight forward pregnancies so far whereas I have a medical condition that is supposed to be monitored as pregnancy can make it worse.
Basically I'm just wondering if what I am getting is the norm or if I should be questioning it? Xx

Are your friends further along in their pregnancies than you are? So far your schedule of visits sounds standard, and appointments become more frequent in the last trimester.

Not all midwives give out their phone numbers unfortunately, and it is a real shame that you don't seem to have much continuity! At the very least you should have a number (in your handheld notes?) where you can reach the community midwifery office. You should be able to speak to a midwife through this number.

You should be able to contact a midwife at the surgery you're having your appointments at through the normal surgery number or failing that, at the hospital you plan to give birth at. Otherwise, as Bue said, there should be contact details in your notes. Anything urgent though call NHS 24 (Scotland) 08454 24 24 24 or NHS Direct (England - and I guess Wales?) 0845 4647.

I'm the same, seen at 16 weeks and won't get checked again until 24 weeks. I'm on my 4th pregnancy so I'm basically left too it. I do have contact details on my notes tho incase of any worries.

I just have the maternity triage number but that puts u through to the delivery suite so don't like ringing that if its just a query as they are obviously going to be busy.
One of my friends is a month ahead of me and the other is a week. We are all at the same hospital but all have different doctors surgeries x

I think all doctors are different. My midwife only works one day a week so has her phone turned off the rest of the time, is a good job I havent needed her, whereas friends of mine, plus people I've read on here seem to talk to their midwives quite a bit with any concerns etc. I do have a number for a lead midwife in the area though which I thought was pretty standard and am surprised you haven't any contact details.
Also following 16 week apt next one was at 25 weeks... Is it worth seeing if they can move forward the one from 28 weeks? Finally I also saw a diff mw at booking apt, think that's fairly common x

I think it depends if they are seen by gp based mw or community based ones. I am under a gp based one so only have the surgery number but a friend had community mw so had a mobile number that diverted to.whoever was on duty.

Ask ur gp hun

I have a list of when I need midwife appointments in my mat notes and its up to me to contact her. My SIL hadn't realised she needed to get in contact with them to make appointments and the likes and didn't see a midwife until after she gave birth!
I have seen 4 different midwifes at my prenatal appointments but I have been given contact numbers for them but have phoned the mat unit directly if I have needed anything. Phone your surgery and ask if they have a contact number for the midwife
