Can anyone advise me, just woken up and my fingers have swollen up. It's probably nothing... Reassurance please! My ankles and feet seem normal. I'm 40 weeks and 8 days...! Thanks

Speak to your midwife. You need to speak to (and possibly be seen by) someone who knows what they are doing rather than relying on strangers on the internet.

Ok didn't think it was really anything to worry about, but thanks for the advice.
I am just asking for advice from the 'strangers on the Internet' as I am the first of my friends to have a baby and don't know what to expect...

I have no advice I'm afraid but just wanted to say I don't think dino comment was very helpful, I think 99% of these threads are people asking 'strangers on the Internet' for advice, it can be a good starting point and I've found it helpful in previous posts

If its really sudden swelling then ring your mw. If its been a gradual thing ie for a few weeks it'll just be more fluid retention. I think if its a symptom of pe they get REALLY swollen. I'm on dc2 at 37 weeks and my fingers are now too swollen to wear wedding rings but were fine last week. But it's been gradual x

You need to get your bp checked ASAP. Please call your midwife.

mrsvdb, my comment was helpful. If you are concerned about health matters, it is important to seek proper medical advice and not be reassured by strangers on the internet as it might mean, as it might in this case, that something is wrong.

The first page of hits on googling "swollen fingers pregnancy" brings up pages (there's even a Mumsnet one!) saying, "However, if you have sudden or severe swelling in your face, hands or feet, call your doctor or midwife. It could be a sign of pre-eclampsia, which can be a serious condition for you and your baby", so I don't think asking random strangers on the internet (I am a doctor, but let's be honest, nobody here knows if that is really the case!) is a good starting place.

I really hope that 0pumpkin has sought proper medical advice now and that it has turned out to be nothing serious, but only a doctor or a midwife will be able to offer reassurance after a proper check up.

Do you have the urine sticks to test for protein? I'm not sure if they are given out routinely in all areas.

Swelling alone does not necessarily mean anything but if you have the test sticks then check your urine and I would say give MW a ring too.

Oops just realised your post is from this morning. Hope you got some reassurance OP.

Thanks for the responses, had my BP checked which is normal. I just want this baby to hurry up and come out so i can meet it and everything seems like a big deal in my current state but is normally me just worrying over nothing Smile
