How to deal with hot flashes?!

I'm 21 weeks and am suffering from extreme hot flashes, espessially at work!

At home I deal with them by running my feet under cold water which helps bring my temp down and opening the back door and stripping down to my underwear if needs be.

But I can't really do any of those things at work!! I wack the air con on cold (much to the annoyance of my collegues oops!) and I take off any cardigan etc and I even fan myself with a leaflet if needs be but it doesn't really help, and when I have these extreme flashes they can last any time up to 10 minutes and completely disturbs my concentration which is really difficult when serving customers.

Any advice??

Eagerly watching this thread!

I'm 12+6 and had my first proper hot flush in Tesco yesterday. Had to leave my partner in the veg section and go back to the front of the store to buy a bottle of water. Fortunately it was ice cold so then had 10 minutes of auditioning for a soft porn flick, when holding the bottle in strategic places on my body - neck, chest, ankle etc!

Spent quite a lot of time around the chilled aisles too...

Wonky x

Run your wrists under the cold tap, it cools you temp down x

Thanks tinky, I've tried that and it works while I'm running my wrists under but once i take them away I'm baking hot again!

Wonky, I have done that many a time!! My dp thinks I'm mad, last night he said "I know its muggy but its not that hot!" Ummmmm I wish that was the case!

Hi I'm 23 weeks and am generally a very hot person snd prone to hot flushes anyway so I really feel your pain. We don't have air con at work either and I work with a bunch of people who really feel the cold and am often scowled at for opening the windows. A few months ago I snapped at someone and said "you can put an extra layer on. I'm already down to the bare minimum here!" Wasn't popular that day.

Aside from that, I take a small flannel with me now and a bottle of cold water. When its really bad I wet the flannel and drape it either across my forehead or the back of my neck and shoulders. It works most of the time.

Hope this helps!

Keep a bottle of very cold water next to you, and some tissues. When you get a hot flush, wet a tissue and press it against your wrists. Keep the bottle topped up with ice cubes every now and again, so that it remains cool.

You know that feet in the sink won't work when you're 30+ weeks, right?

I know this from experience Grin

Luckily we were donated a baby bath by one of DH's colleagues a couple of weeks ago. I fill it up with cold water and lay it on a large towel next to the bed, so that I can swing my legs down and soak them in the night, then dry off on the towel so I don't soak DH.

Sometimes my feet are so hot that they hurt when I put them in the water.

At work running your wrists under a cold tap and splashing the back of your neck may work, but you will get very wet :)
