i have oligohydramnios, the amniotic fluid measured at about 10 five weeks ago, 5 last week and have a re-scan booked for tomorrow. on last look the placenta/cord flow was ok. this last week i have also developed high BP (though not high enough that it needs medication) and my bump is getting smaller - possibly due to fluid decreasing? fetal movements are still good, and im getting lots of wiggles.

but i am really very worried that there is something not quite right with the baby and that there are problems that wont have been picked up at the 20 wk scan. i have been looking on the internet (a mistake i know) and there are so many stories of babies not having grown, or not having kidneys, or urinary tract problems or dying shortly after birth due to lung problems. all related to the oligo condition. i am now completely terrified.

how common is this condition? are there any good stories out there? i am a natural worrier but i am stupidly worried about this, and not being able to do much about it either / not knowing is horrible. i am 38 weeks btw.

Hi, unfortunately I don't know about what you're going through because I am only 27 weeks on my first pregnancy but try not to worry, i know its hard (I've anxiety and I'm a huge worrier myself!) but the doctors/midwives will see you right. If they were really very concerned they could have booked you in for a c-section by now. My mum had cord problems having me and she was booked in for a planned c-section for 36weeks! I'm perfectly fine, I do suffer from cystitis (chronic inflammation of the bladder -presents much the same as a lower urinary tract infection but without the infection bit basically). It's annoying and uncomfortable/inconvenient but it's only from time to time and I quickly learnt my triggers so it's easy to keep in check without medical intervention and it really has no negative effect on my life past feeling a bit sucky for a few hours now and again. I hope that's slightly reassuring, the Internet makes things seem much worse than they are...my husband told me that people only go to the Internet to complain which really is pretty true in most cases so I try to avoid googling things now. Out your trust in the docs they can handle anything, and even if the little one is born with a slight complication they are excellent and treating these things quickly and effectively Smile. Good luck...not long now until he/she is here and you can put your mind at ease then Thanks xx
