Feel like I can't get enough air

Is this normal? It doesn't feel like it. I'm 16+1 and have been feeling like I just can't get enough air for a few weeks now but it's getting worse. It's like I'm not breathing enough. I can't really explain it... has anyone else felt like this? Confused

I felt like that then too! I'm sure you should mention it to mw / dr just in case but for me I think (now that it's a bit better, or I've got used to it) maybe it was from increased blood volume, low blood pressure etc. Although anaemia apparently can make you breathless. But in general I definitely felt like that for several weeks and now I feel ok - just practise slow breaths in, hold, slow breaths out etc

Thanks so much Flowers I do have a low iron count so that'll be it :)

I had this quite bad and it turned out to be cos I was low on iron. I feel a lot better now the GP has prescribed me iron tablets.

Futterby · 16/06/2013 22:18

I'm on iron tablets already but I'm not sure how many more I'll be allowed to take Hmm

I was going to say about your iron levels. You need to tell your mw or get a gp app.

Felt exactly the same and it was my anaemia When it was sorted felt much better

I know this sounds stupid, but I used to have this problem even before I was pregnant, it's horrible and really made me panic. I would get some temporary relief by forcing a yawn!

twilight81 · 16/06/2013 23:29

I had exactly this feeling in both pregnancy's, I used to say it felt like the air I was breathing didn't have enough oxygen in it lol... Only way I could describe it. Turned out I was anaemic both times :)
Hopefully should improve for you after a while on the tablets.
X

Glad to know it's relatively common but I've been anaemic all my life and I'm already on three iron tablets a day. Not sure how much they would be able to up my dose Confused

I get it from time to time when not pregnant. For me it's anxiety, it's like I'm not getting enough air into my lungs. And like trenchcoat says, the only temporary relief I get is by forcing a yawn!! It really is a horrible feeling! Touch wood I haven't had it for a while.

I' m 16 weeks too and feel the same. It happened in my last pregnancy too. I think its normal!

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 17/06/2013 09:14

I'm 35 weeks and my iron count is fine so mine must be baby squashing my lungs but its scary at night I wake up and am gulping for air, I mentioned it to my consultant and she said its normal.
