eat lots of iron rich food.. brazil nuts, dried apricots and spinach. You must be exhausted x

bluejelly · 30/05/2006 12:22

iron tablets

trinityrhino · 30/05/2006 12:24

steak?

Hope you're not veggie!

How many weeks are you?

AllieBongo · 30/05/2006 12:28

iron tabs make you constipated. I used to hold my nose and gobble them down lol!

bluejelly · 30/05/2006 12:30

They do a bit but gave me loads more energy so though a price well worth paying. Take with orange juice and lots of roughage!

azroc · 30/05/2006 12:39

Broccoli is good - most dark green things are. I also feel much more energised if I eat a lot of fruit, and avoid junky/sugary foods as they can put me on a real low. Try a nice hot bath before bed too, and make sure you're not dehydrating. Having said that, I've been more tired than usual lately - not sure if the weather is partly to blame. Our bodies are expecting nice springy weather, and the cold, windy wet stuff takes more energy to deal with.

I googled iron tablets and pregnancy and it looks as if you should only take them if prescribed by your doctor and are anaemic.

Otherwise eat iron rich foods.

trinityrhino · 30/05/2006 12:45

dunno how many weeks yet, think maybe 10 to 12, having a dating scan next tuesday

Bananas are a good source of energy too.

LilacBump · 30/05/2006 12:49

i'd take pregnancy vitamins, drink enough water, eat lots of fruit and veg and try to get a good sleep at night.

twocatsonthebed · 30/05/2006 18:49

I know just what you mean - I've been dragging myself through the last couple of months.

One iron supplement you can take is Spatone (odd sachets that you get from boots or a health food store) - totally safe for pregnancy and you just mix it with some orange juice. Also remember that too much tea can inhibit your iron absorbtion.

The other thing that has worked for me is protein. Wierdly (and I mean wierdly, I only went back to eating meat this year) the only thing that perks me up is meat; vegetarian meals, however much spinach they may have, just ain't doing it for me, but after a lamb chop I feel almost human the next day!

hth!

Try having a bowl of porridge in the morning but DON'T add sugar to it - try honey. Works for me!! Grin

fruitful · 30/05/2006 19:03

Oh yes, Spatone, Spatone, Spatone. Never take a nasty constipating iron tablet again!

TuttiFrutti · 30/05/2006 19:39

Go to bed for an hour at lunchtime, and really early in the evenings. Does your 13 month old still have a lunchtime sleep? You might have to develop similar sleeping patterns!

I got so exhausted when pg that I couldn't even walk down the street without wanting to sink to my knees on the pavement. I tried all the healthy iron-rich food, and while I might have been even more tired without it I suppose, nothing actually cured me except masses of sleep.

trinityrhino · 30/05/2006 20:11

tutti, I know what you mean, I do have a nap with dd2 and I do go to bed with her at night some nights so far (bout 9 ish)
but sometimes I feel like I can't move another step ugh , it sucks

gonna go for more veg and iron rich foods
spatone sounds worth a try too

thanks guys Grin
