Preserving scan pics

Hi. How is it safe to treat scan pics?

I know not to laminate them. Then the midwife told me it was ok to scan them onto a pc but not to photocopy them.

Anyone know why or what is safe?

Would like electronic copies to preserve for the future if poss.

I scanned mine for the in laws and to save on my 'kids photos do not lose' dongle they are all fine.

Hmmm I don't know, I hadn't thought of this, ours are just on the bookcase in a little frame. However my husband wanted to take one to work and I didn't want it getting damaged so I photocopied it as I'd never heard not to and it is perfectly fine Smile...I won't do it again though just incase! I also took a photo of it on my phone while still at the doctors and I've uploaded that to my pc, quality was actually surprisingly good! But I don't see the harm in scanning it in, maybe just do it the once though, as I say mine survived photocopying.

I think they keep quite well if you look after them as my mum still has one of my sisters from like 13 years ago!

If you are worried tough you could always take it along to a photography shop and ask for them to make a professional copy/put a copy on a disk that you can then upload to a pc, as they will know how to take care of it. Try google too because I've found loads of different keepsake things on there I bet there's a company who do something for scans if you are uncomfortable just scanning it in ect.

Good luck Smile x

I've had Dd's tucked away in a little envelope for the past 6 years now and they're still fine. I suppose there's so many options now you can choose how you want to save them., I've taken pics of my current scans and they're saved on my iPhone, and are really good quality photos.

I still have my old ones from 21/22 yrs ago and they are in perfect condition. I just keep them in a photo album.

Mine says its heat sensitive paper so keep somewhere dark and cool. Don't laminate but scanning is fine ( colour is better apparently) and it says they should last 5/6 years

That's what I thought about heat sensitive paper - I think the 'do not photocopy' lady's might have been over cautious.

I'm giving them to my Dad to scan or take photos of. Then I'll put them in a cool dark album... Ha!

You can photocopy just make sure the copier isn't hot.
Use it when it hasn't been used for ages.

I've taken pictures of the scan photo with my iPhone so I could email or text to people and these have come out well - can then save to computer. I've also scanned and photocopied the scan pic to send to other people without any problems
