Aaah, sickness. What's the difference between normal sickness and HG? I start being sick at 4am and cannot even manage a drink until 2pm. In that time I will be sick a few times each hour, even on an empty stomach. I might manage a light meal late afternoon and am usually sick again a few times in the evening. Should I have a word with the GP? It feels a bit silly to ask for an appointment for morning sickness Sad

I have no idea but if you are getting dehydrated then you need to go to the doctor or A&E to get on a drip. I would guess you are very dehydrated if you are not drinking from 4am to 2pm..

Hope you feel better soon [thank]

Don't feel silly asking for an appt. I'm currently 8wks pg and have been suffering with HG for the past two weeks. Saw my GP last week and she sent me to the EPU where I had 3ltrs IV fluid as was so dehydrated.

I'd say if you're not drinking enough (monitor quantity and colour of urine for changes) and you can't function day-to-day, you need to see a nurse or GP soon.

Good luck - mine were lovely (am going back soon as having trouble with the latest medication I'm trying).

I suffered from HG twice. Yours does sound quite bad. Dehydration is the big worry. If you are vomiting from 4am to 2pm without holding down liquids that isn't good for you.
I'd say get checked out. A urine sample will show if there are ketones present.
I tried to convince myself in was 'just morning sickness' and ended up in a dreadful state. I was admitted and kept in for several days til I was rehydrated. They put me on a vitamin drip and prescribed medication for me.
Don't suffer needlessly.
Hope you feel better soon. How many weeks are you?

HystericalParoxysm · 13/06/2013 13:03

Thanks all, I went to GP who has prescribed Cyclizine. Only a trace of ketones so I can stay out of hospital for now. I'm 8 weeks but with twins which is probably why I'm sicker than I have been in previous pregnancies.

Glad you have been seen.

Are you going to try the cyclizine?

Try to keep drinking just tiny sips, enough to wet your mouth.
Tiredness is your enemy. I always felt worse and vomited more when tired.

Also, as difficult as it is you really need to try eating little and often. It can take time but you will find things that you can keep down even for a while.

Once I got over the constant all day vomiting things like sesame sticks were handy to nibble on.

SlinkyB · 13/06/2013 18:08

I'm on Cyclizine too, it really does help with my food aversion as I can nibble on crackers. Find it makes me sleepy though so can't drive.

The GP signed me off work for two weeks, which is a relief.

HystericalParoxysm · 13/06/2013 18:14

I did try the Cyclizine, threw up about 30 mins later but think that was long enough to digest some. Then slept for 2.5 hours Blush.
The GP said it wouldn't make me sleepy, but I think it did?

They def make me sleepy! I took one at 2pm, fell asleep at 3pm and woke up at 5.30pm. Saying that, I'm permanently shattered atm anyway. My box of tablets says "Warning: may make you sleepy. Do not drive or operate machinery if this happens".

I tried Metocloperamide (sp?!) First, which gave me diarrhoea, then after I said Cyclizine made me sleepy I tried Stemetil...which literally did nothing and I was sick on them twice yesterday Sad so Cyclizine and bed rest it is for me.

Congratulations on the twins btw! Smile Do you have any other children?

SlinkyB · 13/06/2013 18:23

P.s I've been reading up on the Pregnancy Sickness websites linked to on the Hyperemesis support thread on here. They say HG peaks at weeks 8-10 weeks, so fingers crossed this is the worst it will be.

froggiebabies · 13/06/2013 18:54

The cyclizine totally wiped me out too! I also tried Stemetil and like Slinkey it did nothing for me at all.

I think the side effect of being sleepy is a good thing as long as you don't have other things you have to do. I took it when expecting dd1 as when the HG was at it's worst all I could do was lie down anyway.

I tried it in my second pregnancy but I had toddler dd1 to take care of and I just couldn't be so sleepy so I had to stop.

HystericalParoxysm · 13/06/2013 18:54

My tablets came with no patient info leaflet which was helpful Hmm so thank you for the info!
I have two children already so I will have 4 under 6 Shock terrifying but exciting... Unfortunately the two I already have mean going back to bed is not usually an option. I do hope this is as bad as it gets, think this might be my last pregnancy at this rate!

The Stemetil I had didn't come with a patient information leaflet either, but a quick Google brought it up .

I'm fortunate in that I have a 2.5yr old ds, but lots of support and childcare help nearby. If I'd felt this rotten first time round, I honestly don't think I'd go on to have another child.

froggie interesting that Stemetil did nothing for you either; my mate took it last year and swore by it. Was so disappointed when it did nothing. Guess it shows we're all different.

Crikey, four under six does sound fun! At least you'll have some 'helpers' OP Wink

How are you doing Hysterical? I had a better day, but went downhill from 4pm then brought my whole dinner up tonight Sad
