hi everyone
im 18 wks pregnant with no3 and felt kicks around 12-13 weeks but then not much. went for a scan last week and everything seems fine with baby and was told placenta is anterior on the front of my tummy and she said this blocks the kicks. its so difficult as i can hardly feel anything and just worry all the time. anyone had similar story?

I had an anterior placenta and didn't feel definite kicks till 21/22 weeks. By the end of my pregnancy I was grateful for the extra cushioning!

TinkyPeet · 12/06/2013 15:51

I had anterior placenta with my dd and it was the same, don't worry it will only be a few weeks and you'll be feeling lots more :) x

mrsravelstein · 12/06/2013 15:54

yep, had 2 anterior placentas and definitely later feeling kicks

mamachelle · 12/06/2013 16:33

i have that now with baby no4, i could feel very faint movements from 19 weeks onwards (dh couldnt). i found that laying on my side in bed meant we could feel frequent, harder kicks. Am 35 weeks tomorrow and now i feel like baby is having a party in there :)

I have an anterior placenta and had an emergency scan at 24 weeks as i didnt feel baby move. They said this was common and it was such a relief seeing the baby move and kick and i couldnt feel a thing as baby was just booting the placenta.

workingonitagain · 12/06/2013 18:31

thanks for all ur comments. it's great to know there is lot of us out there. i guess it's just waiting then and lots of laying on my side at night trying to feel something Smile

Yes, I feel lots less than when I was pregnant with DS. I'm 26 weeks now and am getting quite a bit of movement though, it seems more obvious higher up so I wonder if baby is reaching past the placenta there?

MrsO27 · 12/06/2013 19:36

I'm 21 weeks with an anterior placemta and I would say only in the last week have I felt definite baby movements (vague flutters before then). They're still not very frequent at the moment but I do feel the baby every day now at least twice. This is my first so nothing to compare to. Try not to worry, it will happen.

Weird, posted that twice, sorry

I have anterior placenta this time. I had similar, felt movement very early then it stopped around 12-13 weeks for a fortnight or so, came back, went again etc! Think it just depends on babies position. As pregnancy has progressed the gaps in movement got a lot shorter and I'm now 30 weeks and feel movement every day. I honestly can't remember if I felt stronger or more kicks in my last pregnancy. Since the gaps have stopped it feels the same I think.

W35 here... anterior placenta too. Definite movements (the kind that make you burst into a grin...!!!) around week 24-25!

It feels like an indeterminable wait.... but don't worry - you will feel them a lot..... soooon!!! :) Flowers

I have an anterior placenta and I was very worried about this. I didnt feel much until 18-19 weeks at all, but now at 22 weeks it never stops moving! at 21 weeks my fella could feel the movements and now they are visible for the outside! Shes a right wriggler!!

cogitosum · 13/06/2013 09:03

I've got an anterior placenta now 36 weeks and I think it definitely muffled things. For various reasons I had scans at 23 and 28 weeks and in both saw him moving without feeling it.

Now 36 weeks and feel him loads Smile the only thing I'd say is I don't notice elbows/hands/feet the way others do at this stage. All movements feel like a head or bum because I think the smaller body parts are pushing the placenta out iyswim

Teapig · 13/06/2013 09:22

I had an anterior placenta and never felt very much movement. I went to hospital three times to check things were ok as a few times I felt nothing even after drinking a cold drink, laying down etc at 25+ weeks. Everything was fine and DD was born at a healthy 8lb 9oz which surprised given how little I'd felt her. She's 7 weeks now and wriggles for England so I think my anterior placenta may have been a blessing.

BraveLilBear · 13/06/2013 11:01

I have an anterior placenta, but have had no problems of this nature because the placenta is very low - 8mm away from internal os at 20-weeks. I could feel movements from 16 weeks onwards.

But there is a definite 'void' where the placenta is, and most of the movements I have always felt are above belly button and out to the sides (now 34 weeks and little monkey is a fan of my ribs, apparently).

Interestingly, I noticed the other day punching sensations at the bottom of my bump for the very first time, following two days of round ligament pains - I'm taking it as a sign that the placenta has now moved up given that they won't rescan!

So, judging by the clear void of movement in my belly, I think it is entirely normal for placenta to be in the way and to muffle kicks. I'm just 'lucky' to have had a very low placenta for so long so, apart from a terrifying 5 hours at 28 weeks when monkey was hiding, there was never any lack of movement... Must be much worse for you guys with normally positioned placentas!

workingonitagain · 14/06/2013 20:16

thanks again i heard the heartbeat yesterday and as i relaxed, suddenly i started feeling a lot more movements. typical! thing can only get more enjoying from here. cant wait for a nice big buttom twisting my tummy Smile

I've been feeling regular kicks since 20 weeks scan and at 21 weeks saw an actually baby kick (belly moved where baby kicked). I felt some flutters before 20 weeks, but barely noticeable. With my first I felt baby earlier on and first one was posterior placenta and this time anterior.

CornishFirstTimer22 · 15/06/2013 10:45

I have high anteriour according to my scan this week. I found that I feel wriggles and kicks if I lie on my front (I don't have much of a bump yet!). And occasionally think I feel kicks at other times but not very strongly yet. I can't wait for OH to feel!!

CornishFirstTimer22 · 15/06/2013 10:46

Sorry - forgot to say I'm 20 weeks!
