I know this has been done to death but I've started to get relly worried/upset following comments from others. So far I've been told I look like a teletubby, chubs, fatty, if I've eaten ll the pie, walrus etc ou get the idea. Plus a friend who's 18 weeks randomly old me shed put on 4 pounds!

I'm 25+4 and have put on 16 pounds already - I've never been pregnnt before so have nothing to compare to, is this too much, should I be cutting back a bit?

That doesn't seem unreasonable to me. A rough guide for healthy weight gain is 2 to 2.5 stone if you are normal BMI pre-preg, less if you are overweight or obese. So at 25 weeks, you've gained just over a stone. You'll gain about the same perhaps.

Don't cut back on food if you are eating healthily, certainly avoid the junk if you think it's an issue but otherwise I don't think you need to worry. I gained very little weight before 25 weeks with DD and then was 2 stone heavier by the end. This pg I gained a lot earlier but now at 39 weeks I have gained exactly 2 stone overall. Every person and pregnancy is different. Try not to worry, and tell anyone who says anything offensive to butt out.

Up to about 30 weeks I would have said I looked fat rather than pg too, then it shifted into a bump. It doesn't mean a thing about what you are eating. Hugs x

16 ppunds really doesn't sound ott to me... I read they expect something like 2 kilos by about week 12, so sure you're fine Smile

Phineyj · 11/06/2013 17:38

I think you need some new friends!

LadyMedea · 11/06/2013 17:40

Everybody is different so if you're happy, eating healthy don't worry about it. Other people need to keep their big traps shut!

ilikebaking · 11/06/2013 17:40

Well, you are meant to put on between half a pound to a pound a week in T2- so... thats 12lbs for you so far? I think. And you can put on 5lbs in T1 and be fine... which adds to 17lbs.
These are 'guidelines' that I have read though, so you seem totally normally on track. I am 17 weeks and have gained 8lbs...
Some women have put on 20lbs by 20 weeks, other have lost a couple by 20 weeks.
Who ever has been telling you that you look like a teletubby, walrus, or have eaten all the pies is a complete idiot. You are pregnant and growing a baby, not just gorging on food to win some sort of weight gain contest! The next time it happens, politely inform them that you are pregnant, very happy and that they should mind their own....
Also, 'cutting back' would be? What? Dieting? How 'bout no?
Enjoy this time and I bet you look like a blooming goddess... please don't worry about what scales say. They are misogynists!

MisselthwaiteManor · 11/06/2013 17:41

It depends on what you started at but generally that's a perfectly acceptable weight gain, and everyone is different.

As for your friend, I didn't gain much until the second half and then it piled on so she may not be so smug for much longer! Grin don't compare yourself to others.

mamalovebird · 11/06/2013 17:41

So you're over half way and only put on just over a stone? Doesn't seem excessive to me. I am due tomorrow and have put on about 2.5 stone. Ignore the comments, some people love it as an excuse to say something bitchy just because you're pregnant because they feel they can get away with it more.. I put on loads at the start because I was so sick that eating starchy food was the only thing that helped. As I progressed my eating returned to normal and I evened out.

Clarabell78 · 11/06/2013 17:42

Don't worry that is a totally normal weight gain and not too much at all!! Just try to eat healthy foods with the odd treat rather than the other way about. Your body will do what it needs to do and you just need to go with it! I'm 36 weeks and have gained almost 3 stone despite eating healthier than I have ever eaten in my life! The volume of food has gone up though but I'm so hungry I'm not going to starve myself. I've resigned myself that the weight will come off after when I can diet and get back into exercise along with breast feeding. Your body is making a whole other person so go with it and let it do what it needs to, it's only temporary. As for the people calling you names, get rid!!

lauracutee · 11/06/2013 17:51

I think those are really nasty things to say! I'd be well peed off and offended if someone said that to me. What about 'blooming'? 'Blossoming'? Grr, some people!!!!

I'm 32 weeks and have put on a stone and a half, not helped by the fact that I constantly have cake hanging out of my mouth.

I bet you look great!

Ls271082 · 11/06/2013 18:01

I started of with bmi of 20, it's now 22.6. Just feeling like a porker and I've eaten loads today, I'm just so hungry :(

You're building a whole new human being, from scratch, cut yourself some slack! :)

MisselthwaiteManor · 11/06/2013 18:04

You shouldn't feel bad for eating, if you're hungry you're hungry for a reason. There's plenty of time to worry about weight after the baby is born.

Excited85 · 11/06/2013 20:27

A colleague said to me that she loved being pregnant - it was the only time she felt she didn't have to breath in and could just be. I thought that was fantastic and am living by her philosophy. Ignore the idiots and embrace what your body is doing. And IMO you sound right on track x
