I'm 19+3 wks and have had frequent fetal movement for 2+weeks now, and today I have felt nothing, this is my second child and it doesn't feel so normal... Getting myself a bit worried!

Reluctant to call midwifes as they will probs say without blood or pain they won't see me??

Reassurance and advice needed?

Thanks x

I think the advice is if there is any decrease in movement to call the midwives to be on the safe side. I called once and they advised to have a sugary and/ or cold drink and lie very quietly to monitor movement. Sure enough he started moving but I would have rung back if not.

Call them. Now. They will not think you're wasting time. This is what they're there for. Please, call them.

Hi smilehappy, I had a panic like this too and what I learned was:
1 - Generally before about 24 weeks (or is it 28?) the movements can be pretty irregular and 'counting the kicks' isn't really meaningful (although everyone is different).
2 - If you're worried then you should call your midwife or FMU. I ended up going straight to my maternity ward when I had two days of no movement. They were LOVELY, saw me with five minutes and found the heartbeat right away.

I seriously doubt you have anything to worry about, but nothing wrong with putting your mind at rest!

Am 31+2 now and currently being booted enthusiastically in the ribs. Good luck!

I'm sure all will be well.

Drink an iced or really cold glass of water and lie down x

Call your mw if you are really concerned though.

Probably already been sorted out by now, but please call the midwife. They really don't mind and would rather you got checked out. This happened to me several weeks ago (am now 34+1) and they told me to come in straight away. I was put on the monitor for a couple of hours (which was, of course, when the baby decided she was fine and would have a party in my stomach!!)

As I left they told me not to hesitate if I was worried again and to just come in.

Hope everything is ok.

At such an early stage the baby has LOADS of room to hide away in, it'll be snuggled down somewhere having a nice comfy time while you worry! Also would depend on where your placenta is as this can cushion movement.

This will happen still til around 26 weeks or so really, I would still advise you call your MW if you need more reassurance though :)

I am just over 20 weeks an started feeling movement at about 18 weeks, very active strong movement. Then for about 3 days I felt nothing. I had my 20 weeks scan yesterday (have to go back in 2 weeks but that's another story) and little baba was extremely active!!! Just not in places where I can feel.
And last night I could not sleep there was so much wriggling going on!

PirateMonkey · 11/06/2013 09:02

Did you feel baby move again during the night? Go to triage if you are at all concerned. I had reduced movement or a drastic change in movement pattern all through my third trimester and had to be monitored frequently. They never made me feel like I was exaggerating or overworried. In fact I once got a right telling off from the registrar on duty for having waited too long to bet checked out as I had been afraid of being a 'time waster'. She basically said they rather have a whole waiting room with women to monitor and 'catch the one' where it could be critical. Most likely your baby is fine but it is worth to get it checked out if you are concerned. Good luck!

Hi ladies,

Thank you all for your replies, i called the MW at hospital last night, who advised that baby has a lot of places to move around in there and to call back today if I was still worried....

When I was up through the night to use the bathroom and came back to bed baby started kicking!! Thank god!

I feel a bit silly now getting all worried, but, its very difficult not to... Thanks for all your lovely replies and reassurance!

ThanksThanks x

Lj888 - even though my baby was very (VERY!!) active around the time of my anomaly scan, there were loads of big movements it was doing during the scan that I couldn't feel at all. Really surprised me actually!

Smilehappy, glad all is ok :)

Dolallytats · 11/06/2013 13:35

smilehappy, don't feel silly!! What we all learn pretty quickly is that babies worry you from the second they are conceived, not from when they are born!!

So pleased everything is ok.

Nicolaeus · 11/06/2013 13:51

Don't feel silly.

Same thing happened to me. Had read loads about counting kicks, had a couple of weeks of lost of kicks then nothing all day. Went to the hospital and got scanned straight away - turns out DS had just changed position and as he was so tiny at that point (23 weeks) I couldn't feel him any more.

I got told that it was normal not to feel kicks at that point Hmm which didn't reassure me as I'd been feeling them before!
