I'm 38 weeks pg and just set up the birth pool and am testing it out. This is the closest to comfortable I've been since April. I am NOT getting out. All the 24/7 pg aches and pains are gone gone gone. Just thought I'd share this euphoric moment before reality kicks in and I have to work out how to care for a 2 year old whilst in it Grin. Damnit reality always gets in the way of my fun!

I really want a water birth! Have heard so many great stories :)

lauracutee · 09/06/2013 17:42

Ooh sounds great! I'm hoping for a water birth too!

mummynatty · 09/06/2013 17:48

I so wanted a water birth for my first but didn't get chance too may have to try it for this one :)

kelda · 09/06/2013 17:48

Oh yeah they are great while you're still pregnant.

Didn't really do much for me during the actual labour though.

mummynatty · 09/06/2013 17:52

Lol have you brought one for home?

Are they a lot or do you rent them?

MortifiedAdams · 09/06/2013 17:59

I so so wanted a waterbirth but had tested +ve for Strep B so xouldnt do the pool at the antibiotics Sad am v.jeal!

kelda · 09/06/2013 18:05

I tested positive for strep B. I still had a home water birth, they just gave me the IV antibiotics while I was in the water. I kept my hand with the IV out of the water.

MortifiedAdams · 09/06/2013 18:54

I asked if I could do that and was told no way. hmmm....maybe when I have another I will be forceful!

eccentrica · 09/06/2013 19:01

I had my daughter in a birthing pool (in a birth centre, not at home) and it was fantastic! After mindblowing agony in labour the pain and disorientation went away instantly.

The weirdest thing is when the head comes out and it's underwater, and you have to wait for the next contraction before you can push - it's fine because the baby doesn't need to breathe until they feel the air, they get oxygen through the umbilical cord, but it is still a very odd experience Grin

photographerlady · 09/06/2013 19:42

I scheduled a water birth but at 35 weeks I'm ready to rent a pool just to float in it daily lol

MrsHY1 · 09/06/2013 19:46

Good one quertas! Did you buy the pool or rent it? Contemplating a homebirth for my first baby so this is good to hear x

quertas · 09/06/2013 19:47

I don't know whether it'll help in labour or not - really hope so. Last time had to be induced at 42 weeks for stubborn baby so missed out on pool. This time hoping for home birth in the pool. But my god it's such a flipping relief to be in water from the pain of late pregnancy. I stand up out the pool and it's like instantly gaining 3 stone and it all comes roaring back, but in the pool it's great. I hired it, no way could I buy this but while I've got it I'm going to pretend I'm in a spa bath somewhere exotic (not least because its going to be a long time according to my bank balance before I'm anywhere exotic againWink

I rented a heated pool. I wallowed in it for 4 weeks once I started maternity leave and was completely back and hip pain free in it.
Didn't get to give birth in it though in the end thanks to a potentially tricky labour but it was well worth the money as I was in agony out of my pool.

ShoeJunkie · 09/06/2013 19:52

I had DS in the pool - it was brilliant. Had TENS machine or was in the bath for most of early labour then hopped lumbered into the pool with g&a until DS arrived. I'd recommend it to anyone!

MadameBlavatsky · 09/06/2013 20:18

I missed out on a pool with DD as I was fully dilated and pushing before it was ready, by which point I couldn't have moved if I'd wanted to!

Had a home water birth with DS and it was AMAZING! As soon as I got in the pain became loads more manageable and helped enormously. I would definitely do it again and get some use out of it beforehand knowing how great it is.

Quertas... when you get out of the pool for a moment and check this thread... ;) Which pool did you go for?

I'll be getting one this week and am stuck between the birth pool in a box (mini plus), or the La Bassine.... would like to know which one you went for?

quertas · 09/06/2013 21:09

Hi Reiki, I hired one from this company www.aquabirthsathome.co.uk. They're local to us but may have national links. The pool is large and comes in 4 pieces with 2 liners and a pump to empty it but it feels like you can lean on the sides more than an inflatable one maybe (?)

I'm out of the pool now Hmm and im back to my back is killing me and it feels like my bump is actually splitting my skin. 38 weeks and I am SO ready for this baby to be out now!!! (Whine whinge whine!) I'll shut up now Smile

Does your midwife not provide you with one for free?! They do here. Can't wait to try it out :)

quertas · 09/06/2013 23:39

Hi Dave, sadly no not here Hmm good luck with yours!

Quertas thank you for the link. Am 35w today and think i've overdone it lifting something I maybe shouldn't have... things hurt a bit where there was no hurting before!! d'oh...

Have to say I would quite gladly jump in my mother's pond at this rate!!
