Hi All, Am almost 7 weeks along with pregnancy #1 and finding it really hard going. I'm sure you know the stuff - constant nausea, dizzy spells, breathless and knackered all the time. I'm not sure if this is down to my age (am 39 - so depressingly am classed as an 'older mother' and I do have a few underlying health issues - underactive thryoid, tendency towards anaemia.) Anyone else finding it so hard going? Am wondering if it's worth visiting the doc or if this is just normal...

Hey I'm not sure how far I am alone but sounds normal as what you reason net and books.

This is my 2nd and I'm feeling sick tummy ache tired just not my self don't want to do much I'm only 22.

If your worried might make you feel better talking to doctor or midwife :) put your mind at rest, I'm thinking of phoning doctor as had tummy ache since last night, don't feel like doing anything, and just worried that everything's going to go wrong :,( and I have to wait till 3rd July for my midwife appointment :/

jessw25 · 09/06/2013 13:10

Hi both, congratulations first of all :-)

Although I escaped morning sickness, I felt horrible for most of the first trimester. Headaches and extreme fatigue, even if I'd slept for 10 hours! Always felt a bit 'icky' as well and just not quite right. Around week 13 it started to lift and I felt normal again!

Good luck x

mummynatty · 09/06/2013 13:19

Aww thanks umm s what would ou say bout tummy aches as I have Ibs not tht long ago :/ and just do t feel real ATM and just feel like everything's going to go wrong

PumpkinPie2013 · 09/06/2013 15:49

I'm expecting my first and trimester 1 was grim Sad

I felt constantly sick and was always heaving or being sick. I was exhausted all the time and just felt generally horrendous!

It gets better though! I'm nearly 16 weeks now and the sickness has gone and I feel much more energetic! I have an achy pelvis but can live with that Smile

I think the first scan is a turning point as well because you relax a little after seeing baby.

Best of luck and roll on trimester 2! X

mummynatty · 09/06/2013 16:12

Yeah I know I dont feel completely myself but can't really put it into words as I don't know how I'm not feeling myself just want to know if there is a baby in there and that it's alright :/ just can't wait till scan comes but dreding it too :,( think I'm just worrying myself too much that's why I have tummy aches :( hope it's just that but it not better tomorrow will be calling doctor or midwife xxx congrats yeah cant wait till I'm in my 2nd trimester

Hi OP

Congratulation Flowers... Everything you mention is pretty normal in the first trimester. I am 37 and I am 9+5 and have been suffering from HG (sever form of ms & food aversion). It's got so bad I passed out and ended up in hospital on a drip for 4 days. Now on meds. Everyone keeps telling me (including doc & MW) that it improves once you get to 12-14 weeks when the placenta takes over from the york.

At 7 weeks, I am assuming you are due in January 2014? You could join us on the January 2014 antenatal thread. Everyone is suffering like you are at the moment and we are supporting each other threw it as well as proviin support/ideas... Here's the link if you fance a nosy... Grin

The first trimester is the WORST. Honestly. I'm 15 weeks preggo just now and as soon as I hit 14 weeks the nausea, sickness, fatigue and ickyness just vanished. Good luck Flowers

Thanks guys, REALLY appreciate your reassurance and words of support. Let's hope we're all feeling better soon. Littlepeapod - will definitely check out the link. Cheers!

When you see your baby on that 12 wk scan the feeling rubbish will be so worth it! Although i know that doesn't help when you are at work, stressed, knackered and feeling crap! Hope you feel better soon :-)

Mummynatty - did you call the midwife about your tummy for some reassurance? My mw has always really good about coming back to me on the little queries for peace of mind

pizzaqueen · 11/06/2013 14:37

Yes i think i'm about 9 weeks and i feel utterly gross. Tired and constantly nausea (although no actual sickness thank god!). I never had any of this with my first and just breezed through until labour. My DP just doesn't get it because i was so full of energy last time.

I don't think it's your age because i'm 24 and feeling blooming crap!

I've also put on over 10lb, because the only things I want to eat are junk and fatty foods. I was on a very strict calorie controlled diet and gym regime before getting pg but I've given that up and just feel like a big fat blob. I'm only 9 week fgs and none of my clothes fit properly.

And i'm so anxious something has went wrong and i don't know about it, i can't wait for my scan just to see whether there'sa heartbeat or not Sad.

You are not alone!

blondebaby111 · 11/06/2013 14:41

Hi mummynatty, I'm 9 weeks and I was suffering with my tummy, horrible bloating feeling and just felt yucky. I've had slight ibs in the past before and I take a pro-biotic every other day and its helped me massively.

Notspringchicken, I'm 9 weeks so just slightly further than u and I found the tiredness very very hard going. I too have been anaemic and was worried but it sounds to me totally normal. I'm very lucky so no morning sickness yet but that yucky feeling really dragged me down. This week I'm now obsessing as I feel quite normal and now I'm stressing somethings wrong. Please try not to worry xx

Shellywelly1973 · 11/06/2013 14:51

Im 39 so older mum & 7 wks tomorrow. Ive also got an underactive thyroid. I feel pretty awful to be honest. Im putting it down to the thyroid as i was only just diagnosed before i found out i was pregnant.

Have you had bloods done to check your thyroid function yet? If your on medication, it may need to be adjusted.

Take care...it will all pass!!

notspringchicken · 12/06/2013 15:37

Thanks again guys! It's really good to talk to you all.

Pizzaqueen - totally know what you mean about the fatty foods. The smell of veggies makes me want to heave at the moment but McCoy's ready salted crisps seem to really settle my stomach! How bizarre is that?

Shellywelly - I had my thryoid tested last week and all has come back well. Although my GP wants me to get it tested regularly throuhgout the pregnancy to make sure it holds steady. She said (and i quote) 'Don't listen to anyone who says you only need it testing once - it should be monitored.' Useful insight!

Congratulation on your pregnancy. I have felt ill from beginning to end with all my pregnancies regardless of age or child gender.

My body simply doesn't like being pregnant! I get everything from HG to SPD to heartburn, exhaustion, swelling, thrush, UTIs etc etc. Birth is like the flick of a switch and I begin to feel normal again.

josephine1986 · 12/06/2013 18:43

i'm 10 weeks tomorrow, started feeling a little more human day before yesterday after ghastly all day nausea, wiped out exhaustion, aversions etc.
then was brushing my teeth this morning and wham, retching and smell of toothpaste set me off again...
i'm finding i now get sickened by eating the foods that i used to stave off nausea previously...so i have to keep introducing new things to stop the cycle. it's getting expensive
