Hi, I'm 36+2 and sorting out the last few bits we need. And would love some help on which monitor to buy - should we go sensor pad, video or just audio. And which brand. What did you buy and why? Any suggestions gratefully received. TIA Smile

We just got the bog standard audio tommee tippee one. Works really well and only gives you audio when baby does something other than the usual sleeping snuffles (although you can press a button to hear the normal background sounds for five seconds).

I think the video monitors and the sensor pad ones would probably breed paranoia, but can understand their usefulness for babies who are premature or have special needs etc.

I bought a summer video monitor.

This one......

I bought it because I liked to see what the baby was doing, also it has a temperature sensor which displays on the monitor. The monitor sits in the cradle with a magnet to hold it in, but you can also remove it and carry it round, and it has a pretty good battery life as well.
It has a touch screen to control it and it is very easy to use. I have had no interference from my broadband router either, and the picture quality is good even in the dark - although it is in black and white.

I still use it with my son and he is 5 now; when this baby arrives it will be a wrench to move it into the baby's room!!!

Oh also forgot to say, that the controls allow you to move the camera remotely - a lot of them don't allow you to do that' you'd have to go in to the room and physically adjust it. That was another big attraction for me!

It might have been a bit of overkill, but I got the Angelcare movement monitor, which is a pad under the mattress and beeps if they stop breathing or moving and the Motorola video monitor.

Both have been invaluable in my opinion. I am currently watching my 12 month old nap :)

I was going to get the summer video monitor, but you have to plug it in, with the Motorola one you can just charge it up and it lasts about 4 hours between charges, so you can carry it around the house and garden with you....

GiveMeVegemite · 09/06/2013 09:16

...oh and with the Motorola one you can add more cameras so when I have my next DS in September I can still keep a camera in my other son's room and just flip between them...

I got the angel care one and I love it. It is so reassuring to have the sensor pad. The alarm has gone off a few times since ds went into his cot bed but I don't really panic about it, just check on him. I have now increased the sensitivity on it and it doesn't happen much anymore

We just have a BT audio one.

We have found the two way function useful as DS has got older. Means I can mumble "it's still sleepy time" at him without getting out of bed and sometimes it even works

Thank you for all your help. We've just bought the tommee tippee audio and sensor pad one - just wanted the reassurance of the pad. And I love the idea if also being able to say 'its still sleepy time' too Smile
