11weeks- cervix feels low, soft and slightly open?

Hi, I'm 11 weeks and noticed today(maybe shouldn't have been poking around but had a quick feel out of curiosity) that my cervix feels pretty low, a bit soft and not totally closed. More lips than nose for anyone familiar with checking. Should it be high and closed by now? Will they check this at my 12 week scan? Thanks

Is this your first or not? Xx

SadPander · 07/06/2013 22:18

Yes it's my first, I understand its common for cervix to be slightly open after more than one but as its my first I'm a little concerned. I have my first scan next week but not sure if this is something they will check/ pick up on if its not normal.

Just mention it, do you have a midwife yet? If so give her a ring Monday, checking the cervix is not something thats normally checked at the 12wk scan, well not in any of my pregnancys anyway. Mine has always naturaly been how you describe, prior to pregnancy too. But its best to get it checked if its something your worried about xx

Mine took forever to go 'up', think it was about 15 weeks, just take it easy and mention it to your mw x

Stop fiddling about and just trust your body. You'll drive yourself mental.

Thanks everyone, I don't have a midwife yet but will mention it at the scan in Friday and hopefully I'm just one of those who takes longer for this to happen. sheshelob you're totally right, this has become my latest anxiety. Over the last 7 weeks I've convinced myself I have an ectopic pregnancy, missed miscarriage, too many symptoms, not enough symptoms! Hoping the craziness might subside to normal levels after the scan next week!

Agree with shelob that you'll drive yourself mental and also risk causing problems that didn't exist to begin with! Your 12 week scan will hopefully help, but as a fellow worrier, I got a lot more relieved once I started feeling movement around 15/16 weeks. Good luck with the scan and with keeping your hands north of the border! Wink

SadPander - there is nothing like a scan to reassure you. Foetal heartbeats are one of the most miraculous things. I burst into tears when I saw it for the first time.

But also as pregnancy progresses - esp once you start feeling baby move - it is easier to trust what is really happening.

Keep your hands out of your gusset and have some faith!

I love the 'keep your hands out of your gusset' comment, made me giggle!

They offered to check my cervix at the 12 week scan with an internal probe. To put your mind at rest perhaps ask if they can do that for you if it isn't offered as standard.
