I am so confused and worried. Only found out beginning of week that I am pregnant but was confused as to when I actually conceived. Last month I thought I may be pg as had some brown mucus instead of Af which never had before so was hoping it was implantation. However, although it wasn't very much and didn't actually have red blood it did last 5days so guessed was period after all especially as done pg test during and few days after with bfn. However when I did pg test this week 2lines came up very clearly literally as soon as I POAS and digi dated me as 3+ again immediately. So this did start me thinking maybe I had conceived earlier.

I rang docs who gave me number for midwives to contact directly. So rang them but you have to leave a msg and they call you back. Well I'm a teacher and kept ringing whilst at work and when I called back had to repeat whole msg thing again. Well finally got call back tonight and explained situation to midwife. She thinks I could be 10weeks and said they would usually like to see me around now but they have no appointments for a month. She said she's also concerned about the brown blood so is referring me to epu to check everything is ok and to date pregnancy. Now worried something might be wrong.

Also very confused about what will happen at scan and what I am supposed to such as whether I should have drank loads before scan etc I have been told nothing. I also don't know if this will replace 12week scan and whether they will also carry out all the checks to make sure baby hasn't got any problems etc. also before received call I got pregnancy pack from docs which said I had to fill in loads of forms and complete 2urine tests to take to booking in appointment which obviously isn't happening now. I need to get tues morning off work which is hard as I'm a teacher and don't really want to let work know what's going on just yet.

Sorry for ramble, just starting to feel really worried and confused and didn't know if any of you lovely ladies have any experience of this?

Yes, drink plenty before the scan. Try not to worry too much. Everything could still be ok! Smile

Hi tinkerbelle

I have no direct experience but didn't want to read and run. Early pregnancy is such a worrying time and its so frustrating when you can't get appointments on time.

Normally a visit to the EPU would be separate from the twelve week scan but in your case I really don't know. It seems silly that if you don't discover a pregnancy until your second month you then can't get your basic prenatal care.

Regarding the brown blood, whilst it is good it will be checked out it doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong. Some women do bleed during pregnancy anyway, and there are factors unrelated to the health of the foetus that can also cause bleeding, so try not to worry although I know that is easier said than done!

Anyway, lots of hand holding and good wishes. Regarding urine samples, I think that usually the EPU uses two blood tests for hcg a few days apart to assess the health of the pregnancy, although it would be great if someone more knowledgeable than me could confirm this.

Whether you need to drink loads of water depends if you will be given a transvaginal ultrasound or the usual one on your tummy. Again this just depends on the EPU. Confused

In the meantime Flowers and Brew and hope your mind is put at rest soon!

Don't worry about booking in appointments or anything else just yet.

As poster said above drink plenty of water about 40 mins before you go in, and don't worry if you can't hold on because your bladder will fill up again.

This will not replace your 12 week scan.

fanjodisfunction · 07/06/2013 19:56

Oh and if everything is well you will still get your booking in appointment, that's when they take your medical history. Its the start of your notes.

Good luck.

Doctorbrownbear · 07/06/2013 20:01

I would add that if you are earlier than 10 wks they may do an internal scan in which case they would get you to empty your bladder.

Smerlin · 07/06/2013 20:17

Doesn't replace 12 week scan- I had a very similar situation to you thinking I'd had AF when it wasn't and also was referred straight to EPU to check wasn't ectopic or a miscarriage.

EPU at my hospital always do internal scans so bladder has to be empty but if that is the case they tell you and ask you to pop to the toilet before the scan starts.

I'm also a teacher and just told my HOD and HT and told them it was very confidential due to the bleeding and possibility of miscarriage which they respected.

Thanks for replies. I'm glad getting early scan to be honest as not 100% sure on when conceived so will be nice to know exactly how far along I am (and really hoping it is 10weeks) but unsure of her concern about the brown blood in a way as was over a month ago yet my test this week is a strong positive. Surely if there was a problem I would be showing negative now? Will I get to see the baby at the scan or is it just them having a quick check? If I am 10weeks then not sure when they will be able to do 12week scan as mw said they have no appointments for a month but know 12weeks are important for all the tests.

They will show you the screen and explain everything to you yes. And while they might not have any booking in appointments the hospital will be able to fit you in for 12 week scan x

fanjodisfunction · 08/06/2013 09:24

The brown blood could be break through bleeding which happens around the time you would have had your period, or it could be implantation. The good thing is its brown which means old. I have had spotting of brown blood in this pg, and I've had scans and it has turned out to be nothing.

When is your scan?

Tinkerbellefairy · 08/06/2013 09:45

Having scan at epu tues morning. Midwife then just said if all is well then to call back to make booking in appointment. She didn't mention what would happen about 12week scan.

In terms of scan I think it depends. They can do the scan as early as 11 weeks so if your epu scan dates you as this and everything's fine then they might do everything then and there (this happened to me) - I still had to go back at 12 weeks as I was consultant led but it saved me time as everything else had been done I just had to attend the consultant appt Hmm

chryssa · 08/06/2013 12:08

good luck for your appointment! I'm sure you'll be able to get your 12 week scan. I remember when I was pregnant with DS2 I felt very ill before my 12 week scan and got given a scan to check baby but then got my normal 12 week scan as well..
