Terribly low BCG at week 5

Hello all,

I'd be terribly grateful for some advice or opinions about an HCG of 63 at week 5? (I thought I was 6 weeks tomorrow, but the very least I can make it is 4+6 as I got two BFP POASs two weeks ago, so the test wouldn't have picked me up as pregnant then if I were any further along).

No bleeding, but went to EPU as (embarrassingly) I'd had terrible iron tablet constipation, and the constipation pains had made me worry about the pregnancy. When I (oh blush) passed three giant poos, the pain totally went, and I felt fine, but by then had got a scan booked.

Scan this morning found nothing at all in tubes or uterus (one nurse thought she saw a sac, but the other said it's a blood vessel), and HCG done at 63. Going back on Sunday, but realise from the dreaded google that 63 does not bode well, even if I can date it at 4+6 rather than 5+6.

Any thoughts or advice very gratefully accepted.
x

When I did ivf, being pg meant having hcg over 50 at 4 weeks. Then it is supposed to double every 48 hours from there. Can u be 4 weeks? You won't be able to tell until 7 weeks if there is a heart beat or not. Anything under 50 was a biochem ie embryo may have attached only partly. I think embryos can attach and detach q a bit in early stages so time will tell. I hope it is positive outcome for u.

Thanks for the reply.

I see from dreaded instiller of fear in all mummies (i.e Google) that I should be crossing my fingers for at the very least an HCG of 101 (60% increase) by Sunday, so I'm doing that!

I'd love to think I could be 4 weeks, but can't see how I could have got two BFPs two weeks ago then. Kept a (very romantic!) diary of when doing the dirty deed (!), and I certainly was at it two weeks ago, but also was apparently pregnant by then.

Driving self (and hubby) quite bonkers.

Good luck anyhow - tense time.

I don't want to give false hope but yes it is possible all is ok still. Some women have negative pregnancy tests throughout, eg hcg less than 25, with successful pregnancy.

Also with a tilted uterus it is possible too measure two weeks behind in early scans .

Both of these are unusual, but do happen. So all could be ok and ok for dates. I hope that you get an answer soon.

Thanks ever so much for the reply. I'm veering wildly between optimism that I'm a medical anomaly (!) and grieving. Which feels odd, because I feel like it's wrong to feel grief, and that I've given up on the little bean already. Just hugely emotional and wiped out really.

Going for second blood test tomorrow, which can't come soon enough for me. I hope they can give me the results same day, given that it's a weekend I wonder if I need to wait til Monday.

I've got so many questions - does a lower HCH than a 60% increase definitely mean ectopic or miscarriage? Why isn't my body doing anything? What will happen to me/the baby if the HCG is low and I don't bleed? (Sorry if too gory, just thinking out loud really).

Anyway, thanks for the words of support, very much appreciate the compaby whilst I wait it out.

Sorry I wrote a long post and lost it.

But in essence, falling hcg will mean non-viable pregnancy. Slow-rising can mean ectopic/miscarriage/ normal pregnancy. Slow rising does not mean there will be a problem with the pregnancy, but does make miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy possibilities. Further tests would be done.

If you get a good hcg doubling rate, the it could just be a slow starting with the pregnancy and gives the most hope.

I will be thinking of you. I hope you get good levels.

willitbe · 08/06/2013 19:06

In terms of what will happen if it is a miscarriage. I don't tend to start bleeding until my hcg levels reach zero with my miscarriages less than 6 weeks. And then they are like normal periods for me, some slightly heavier but some lighter than usual. I hope this is of some reassurance if it is bad news tomorrow.

If it is ectopic, they will monitor to see if it spontaneously resolves or if intervention is needed.

If it is good or slow rising hcg then I hope that you go on to have a wonderful rest of pregnancy to make up for the initial stress!

Just posting to 'finish off' this thread in case anyone googles looking for low HCG related posts.

I bloodHCG'd at 28 this morning, and started miscarrying this morning also. Very expected, as I was pretty sure of my dates at 6 weeks (although very much tried to believe it was 5 weeks to make the HCG a little better), and as you see, falling too.

Wishing better luck to everyone else, and hoping to be back in the pregnancy threads later this year. x

Sorry to hear your update. So sorry for your loss. I am relieved you have a answer, but wish it could have been different. I hope you have a successful pregnancy in the near future.

TeaAndANatter · 10/06/2013 10:07

Thanks all. Looking forward with cautious optimism to round two on this one.
