Has anyone got pregnant this way

Sorry to ask a personal question, but I'm wondering how many of you fell pregnant following penetration for just a few mins, before withdrawal and using a condom?

I know biologically it's completely possible, but is it a one in a million type situation or actually quite common?

Thanks - as you can probably guess I think I might be pg! We're certainly not trying but have been careless (I thought moderately so but in reality it might be really careless!)

Do you mean just staying inside you for a few minutes after ejaculation but whilst wearing a condom? If so I think unless the condom split/was faulty it would be a very very slim chance but they say they are only 99% proof. Are you late? Poas x

scaevola · 06/06/2013 21:25

Are you asking, in a roundabout way, what it the failure rate of the condom?

It's between 2 (perfect use) and 18 (typical use) - ie for every 100 couples using condoms for a year, between 2 and 18 will start a pregnancy.

Titsalinabumsquash · 06/06/2013 21:28

Do you mean the man being inside you, then withdrawing and putting on a condom before re-entering and continuing?

I think the pre ejaculate contains sperm so it's totally possible! POAS?

siblingrevelry · 06/06/2013 21:29

Sorry, I don't think I explained it very well.

In essence we get revved up, husband enters (without a condom) we have sex for a few mins, he then withdraws, puts on a condom and we then continue to have 'full sex'.

I think at would count as typical, rather than perfect, use.

Pre-ejaculate may or may not contain sperm (under-researched area), but is certainly possible to become pg when using a condom.

Shallishanti · 06/06/2013 21:32

you definitely could get pg that way

siblingrevelry · 06/06/2013 21:33

Haven't POAS yet - not entirely sure when last period was (it was within last few weeks, just don't know exactly). I've spent the last 6 years tracking and charting periods and fertility (3 kids), so it's ironic that now I don't know! I'm worried that if I am it's too early to show up on a test anyway, so I wouldn't necessarily trust a negative.

Ah ok. Well I read quite a bit on 'pre-cum' a while back and it is possible to get pg from it if your oh hasn't been for a wee since last ejaculation. Google it. I think only way to know though is to poas x

scaevola · 06/06/2013 21:35

Can you bear to wait 14 days from that particular deed?

IsThisAGoodIdea · 06/06/2013 21:41

Possible but unlikely.

siblingrevelry · 06/06/2013 21:46

scaevola not sure I can wait! I actually didn't suspect a thing until I threw up spectacularly on Friday morning, and have had a few other symptoms since (bleeding gums, spots, morning sickness the same as with other pregnancies).

It could just be that I have some other condition which is causing the nausea. It just feels exactly like morning sickness!

Happened to me. DS is 7 now Smile

I am currently 15 weeks pg. Used condoms each time I was sexually active, no sign of leakage or breakage. Still trying to figure out when it happened exactly lol.

Also my best friend (who doesn't know I am pg) is 17 weeks pg. Same thing has happened to her, her DH was convinced the test would be BFN because they were using condoms.

So my theory is....it's alot more common than people think.

I for sure won't be relying on condoms only as contraception if future.

syl1985 · 07/06/2013 10:58

It doesn't matter what kind of contraceptive you use. There's always a risk of getting pregnant.

Having no sex is the only way to be sure that you're not pregnant. But that's not really a option.
Then if one or both of you is infertile, but even that goes wrong from time to time.

Between my first and second child we didn't use any contraceptive. We just had sex and just waiting for me to get pregnant again. Because we wanted to have 2 children close to each other. It took over a year to get pregnant again.

Then I used hormonal contraceptive. Which usually is very safe. 6 months later...... we found out I was 14 weeks pregnant.

SURPRISE!!!!

Safe sex, being a bit careless... in the end it doesn't matter. Even being totally unsafe is not a guaranteed of getting pregnant and having safe sex is not a guarantee for not getting pregnant.

It does make the changes of getting pregnant lower, but it doesn't illuminate the risk of getting pregnant.

I guess it's just live.
There're people driving reckless, doing dangerous sports... and nothing happens to them. Then there're people who are always very safe and they get an accident.

These things just happen.

Me and my partner used the "pull out" method for 3 years, one week we decided it would be best to get some condoms as it was getting abit risky, 2 weeks later i was pregnant Shock Pulling out is unreliable really but it worked for us for 3 years, i think any penetration without a condom can result in pregnancy really.
