So I have 8 weeks to go! Most stuff is now sorted however been advised to keep normal bras as long as possible!! It's got to a point now where it is getting rather sore though so reckon I'm going need some maternity ones. Just looking for some advice really. Like how long you would wait till moving to maternity bras and if it's worth popping in and getting measured again for them?

I've never bought a maternity bra, have always stuck to the same styles just changed sizes as an when. Asda George have a great range

Chloebw · 06/06/2013 15:37

Of maternity? I heard it's better for breast feeing though which I am planning

2 weeks to go and I'm wearing normal bras, just changed size. Have bought some nursing bras for later, but not planning to wear those yet.

bebsy75 · 06/06/2013 16:11

I wore maternity bras from the first trimester as I found normal ones really uncomfy. If you're going to breastfeed you DEFINITELY need nursing ones as you can unclip the cup

HavingAnOffDAy · 06/06/2013 16:26

OMG you're doing way better than me!!

With DD I lasted until about 12 weeks before I needed maternity bras

With DS I lasted about 8 weeks!!

I went up about 4 cup sizes with DD & normal bras were NOT an option.

I did get some really comfy (though quite plain) bras from Bravissimo, and another really comfy breasyfeeding one from Mothercare.

Badgerwife · 06/06/2013 16:31

You can get measured from about 35 weeks onwards for nursing bras and wear them straight away.

I recommend Bravissimo; when measuring they do take into account that you're going to grow some more in them.

You say you're sore now, so maybe buy something wireless in a bigger size (the cup might be the same but your ribs expand quite a bit)

Bunnylion · 06/06/2013 16:42

I'm 30 weeks and wear maternity/nursing ones from Figleaf online without wires and with the nursing hooks. Very comfortable.

I would strongly recommend ordering a few bra extenders from Amazon, which have been a life saver in the past week as my ribs are widening. I'm sure they'll shrink back once the baby's out so the extenders have saved me buying yet more bras.

katolla · 06/06/2013 16:52

Bra extenders seconded! For the last 10 weeks of pregnancy and first few weeks after :)

Littlemissexpecting · 06/06/2013 18:04

John lewis also do bra extenders. They won't measure you for a nursing bra till 37/38 wks though. You could get a bra that comes in s/m/l that will keep you going, think its bravado that do them? I got the cheaper version from sainsburys but it doesn't have the feeding clips

Lauraandlailah · 06/06/2013 19:38

Iv bought bras without under wire and that can be turned into strapless as there way cheaper than maternity bras and just as handy as a nursing bra :)

mrspaddy · 06/06/2013 19:43

I needed a maternity bra from about four months. I am now 27 weeks and got measured and fitted for a new bra. She went up one size in the back so it will last until end of pregnancy. It is a Doreen- not pretty at all but so comfy and better shape. I then bought a cheaper pink lace one for pretty wear in supermarket as Doreen is ugly Grin and not suitable for under dresses etc.

ghosteditor · 06/06/2013 19:47

I highly recommend Bravado seamless nursing bras - ugly as sin but so comfortable throughout late pg/nursing/engorgement. I had them recommended on here at had them from 20 weeks. Now I recommend them to everyone Grin

Also second getting measured at Bravissimo - I wore a 36A/34B before preg and now (nursing at 17 months) am measuring a 30F/32E!

Chloebw · 06/06/2013 19:50

Thanks! There's a marks and spencer down from my work might pop in and see if they will measure me!

No no no don't get measured at M&S! They're always wrong! Try the bra intervention threads on here - infallible measuring and sizing. Honestly!!

HazleNutt · 06/06/2013 19:53

Noooo dont get measured at M&S, they are horrible! Check out one of the bra threads in Style and Beauty here.

ghosteditor · 06/06/2013 19:53
Grin
elvislives2012 · 06/06/2013 19:54

I wore nursing bras from 12 weeks as so uncomfortable. First from M&S then mothercare. I found mothercare better at measuring and they had a better range. M&S had horrible brasSmile

HazleNutt · 06/06/2013 19:54

or what ghost said Grin

Chloebw · 06/06/2013 20:14

Aw really? The one near my work always seems to be good but there's a big mother care not far so I will try there

igirisu · 06/06/2013 20:41

Whatever you do, don't get H&M maternity bras, they have no wires and are still completely rigid and irritating, so uncomfortable! I used a bra extender thinking it was the size, it's just the bra in general, absolute loads of shite!

Also I got a pack of 3 bra extenders in black, white and nude from amazon for 1.50 inc shipping, they arrived the next day and are fab! X

mrspaddy · 06/06/2013 20:42

agree....avoid M&S

katolla · 06/06/2013 20:43

Debenhams have a few, Miriam Stoppard one is good

HazleNutt · 06/06/2013 20:50

Sorry, mothercare is just as bad. Do you have Bravissimo in your area?

ghosteditor · 06/06/2013 21:07

You can measure at home...

I've only read the bra intervention thread once but it changed my whole idea of my size! And agreed totally with the bravissimo sizing which was done by sight.

Measure over your rib cage tightly (without a bra) then lean over to 90 degrees and measure quite loosely over the widest part of the breasts. The difference between measurements helps you work out bra size, as you go up a size for every inch difference. For example, my measurements are 31 and 37.

Bra sizes are even so I need to round up or down. Cup sizes are A, B, C, D, DD, E, etc. the difference between my measurements is 6" so that's an E. so I should try on 32E, 30F, etc. seriously, try the bra intervention threads on here, very wise ladies!

Chloebw · 06/06/2013 22:21

Where do I get this bra intervention thread?!
