Talk to me about boobs and bras in pregnancy

Today at work my pg collegue was walking about how she keeps having to but new bras because her boobs keep growing and the ones she needs to buy are really unsupportive.
Another collegue joined in and said her daughter is pg and has just been remeasured and her new ones are too small already.

This was all new to me. What do I need to know about bras in pregnancy?

When I was of with DS my boobs didn't change at all and I just wore my same regular bras up until I have birth. Then switched to feeding bras but my boobs weren't any bigger and feeding didn't work out so I was back in normal bras within a month. Have I been doing it all wrong? This time round my boobs have been sore, which I didn't get last time. I don't have loads of spare cash to replace all my bras and then buy more for feeding.

I usually wear a simple M&S tshirt style bra in size 36C if that makes any difference.

I'm with you, zero boob growth, still in completely normal bras. Am 22 weeks.

Im half with you. 13 weeks now and Im pretty much still in normal size bras, starting to have to adjust through the day to keep my nips covered though desperate not to splash out

Mine went up about 4 cup sizes until I was a size FM (fucking massive). After I got sick of buying new bras I started wearing shock absorber sports bras as they were more comfortable for the expanding rib cage and I could grow into them. I found other non-underwired bras weren't supportive enough but I'm 16 weeks pg and spilling out of my normal bras. Would appreciate something as supportive as a shock absorber but more attractive to look at if anyone has any suggestions.

So I don't need to go out and buy any new special maternity bras? I can just keep wearing my regular underwired ones? That's good as its an expense I hadn't accounted for. Phew!

Last time I went up two sizes in the first trimester and spent £50 buying two bras. Which I outgrew in a fortnight. So bought ONE and washed and dried it every other evening. Later on I bought bra extenders to give me more room. I did buy feeding bras but only a couple and washed them all the time. As I now have such a range of sizes am hoping I'll manage in this pregnancy without forking out again!

Buy I did wear underwired ones until the very end when they weren't comfortable. Bravissimo does nice maternity bras.

Mine have been growing non stop since about 6 weeks (nearly 34 now) but didnt change at all during previous 3 pregnancies.

Have been buying cheap primark sports bras because i cant keep up with buying bigger sizes, would cost a small fortune otherwise and since im usually flat chested would be a total waste of money in my opinion.

I had a proper fitting at one of the independent places recommended on here but am still uncomfortable. The problem with me is that I can't bear the feeling of anything tight around the front of my ribs under my bust since pg- whether it be the band of a dress, an underwire or even the stiff seam along the non-underwired maternity/nursing bras

I think I'm going to have to go sports as well for the remainder so I second Jane's request for any recommendations. Thanks

I keep growing (26 weeks now)... and it's important that if you're wearing underwired bras that they fit VERY WELL and don't squish you at all as you can crush the growing milk ducts.

I was a 34DD and have now just had to order a 38F. I'm basically surviving on one or two bras at a time and going up a size when I really need to. The 38F will be big to start with and I hope will get me through to the end of pregnancy... I have been in well-fitting normal underwire ones till now, this new one is an 'anita' maternity bra with a 'flexible underwire' and my first with feeding clips as I hope it might be worn again during feeding.

It must depend on the person...

I am 9+5 weeks, I have gone up from a 32DD to 34DD. They are fuller and feel heavier, but not much difference, same cup size. I went to M&S to get measured and they recommended non wired bras, I have had then for a week now and they are much more comfortable, I also bought a sleep bra because boobs were so sore when I woke up and this bra has helped.

Until now I have always had underwired, but now I don't think i will go back.
