Seriously, don't waste your money. You'll use it once, if at all.

We used a bath seat and then a Aquapod duo for our twins. Bath seats came in very handy.

Sleepyfergus · 04/06/2013 23:02

Oral bath?!

Agree though with Cointreau, pretty much a waste of money as they're only in them a handful of times before you'll want to move them into the main tub. That said, we had a £4 one from Ikea for both our dds. So if you get one, go cheap.

chocolatemartini · 04/06/2013 23:02

We never had one either!

saladcreamwitheverything · 04/06/2013 23:03

We had a bath seat from mothercare that went in our bath til until he was 6 months, then we bought one he could sit up in the bath in from Amazon. Wouldn't bother with a "baby bath".

FeelingHorse · 04/06/2013 23:05

I have one of those "tubs" ( not a tummy tub but similar). DS loves it as it keeps him all scrunched up like in the womb.

It is, in essence, a large plastic tub-some people wouldn't pay out for it. But I wouldn't be without mine.

LifeOfPee · 04/06/2013 23:07

We have one from Ikea, it cost £5 and DS loves it. He's been in it every evening since he was about 2 weeks old (he's 8 weeks now).

We also have a foam insert which was given to me as a gift and when I saw it I thought "there's something I'll never use" but I have to say it's brilliant. It's slanted so it's thicker at the head end which keeps his head out of water but his bum in it. It means I don't have to hold him and he can have a kick about and splash in the bath.

*normal , thanks that sounds great! ....and cheaper

Depends on your bath! We have a massive bathtub and a slow combi boiler, which means the bath takes forever to fill even a shallow bath. We started with a rest for the main tub but gave up on the v quickly and bought a baby bath from mamas and papas that has a bath support at one end and a support for a toddler to sit at the other end. It's a bit more expensive than some other options (about £26 irrc) but it's been worth it's weight in gold for us and dc1 still uses it every day now at 21 months.

Nervousfirsttimer · 05/06/2013 09:01

The tippie toes one from amazon is great. It's got a sloping back so you don't need to hold the baby while trying to wash them with one hand! We used ours every day till the wee man got too big at about 6 months. It's only £11 or £12

Teaandflapjacks · 05/06/2013 09:01

We bought under advice from numerous other new mums a baby bath with a plug in (no need to lift heavy water to tip out) and one of those seats. This is because we have an very large bath with high sides (it is enormous and fits in two adults comfortably) - my DH will be working away from mon to thurs or fri we think some weeks so I will be on my own with the baby and obviously need to wash her - this is impractical in an enormous bath leaning over high side on my own.

I think if we had a smaller bath I would have debated it a bit more. That said - my friend who was in a similar position to me swears by her bath seat and baby bath with plug combo - got her through the first three months. TBH it cost about 20 quid - for me that is money well spent. I do think those baths where you carry water about between the main bath and it on a stand in extremely dangerous though.

Just got one of those white plastic bath seats from mothercare. Used it from newborn and DS is still in it now (just!) at 6 months. A good spend of £15

TarkaTheOtter · 05/06/2013 09:19

We bought the ikea bath and their cheapest wooden stand. We would pull both over to next to the shower and fill with shower head. We used it until dd could sit up confidently by herself, then she went in the big bath. Meant we didn't have to lean over to bath her.

adagio · 05/06/2013 09:24

I was given a second hand bath, used it maybe 3 times? Baby was long and skinny (only weighed 6lb 12 at birth) she liked to stretch out, which she couldn't do properly in the baby bath after the first week.

She likes having a bath with me or DH in the big bath, in the early days we had lovely skin to skin and she would nurse int he bath too, which was nice.

If she is bogging I run a shallow big bath for her no deeper than is OK for her to lie on the base of the bath with her face out (so maybe 3 inches I guess?).

Baby bath was not, IMO necessary. IF I hadn't of been given one I would have been tempted to use the car washing bucket as a tummy tub in the early days, but it seemed rude not to use the bath we were given.

IShallCallYouSquishy · 05/06/2013 09:25

We got a normal type baby bath and used an insert in it until she could sit unaided, which meant she could lie down in there and I had both hands free. We still use ours at 1yo as she's quite petite so sits in that in the big bath. Saves water and she can happily splash around, play with her ducks etc.

PattieOfurniture · 05/06/2013 09:27

Didn't bother with one for ds2, the one we got for ds1 was barely used.
First few weeks I wrapped him in a towel, held him over kitchen sink rugby style to wash his hair. Towel dryed his hair then whipped his nappy off a plonked him in the sink.
When he got too heavy for that I'd put an inch or so of water in the bath and just lie him down in it, he loved splashing around.
He now sits, stands, crawls in the bath and has a great time.

We had a tummy tub for DS, who absolutely loved it. Muc easier to store than a normal baby bath too. I found our bath too deep to bath the baby in when he was very little, but maybe that's to do with my height / arm length.
