So with my DS1 I had a feeling he would be late. I tried the usual things to get him out but in the end he was born 40+5 after an induction ( nurse said I was actually contracting already so would have been naturally born within a few days) I'm now 33 weeks with #2 this baby is big and I've had a feeling from around 28 weeks that this one will be early. To the point I'm convinced that I'll only have a week or two MAT leave to get sorted. Anyone else had a strong feeling about when they give birth and it was correct? Or people who were convinced they would be late/early and been completely wrong? Smile

I haven't given birth yet but I've been convinced for ages that it will be early. Will be interesting to see of the instinct is right.

TheNobodies · 04/06/2013 16:14

I had an instinct from 16weeks my 1st was going to be early... He was born sleeping at 23 weeks. My instinct was 30 weeks, so it was right but a lot earlier. I think instincts can be right

I was induced at 38+1 with my first, but never had that 'feeling' that I'd be early.

Now with my second from about 34w I've felt like I'll be early. Such strong and fairly regular BH all the time, baby engaged & dropping very early, occasional irregular contractions during the night. However I'm now 38+4 and still waiting! Every night I pretty much feel like "this is the night!" but then I wake up in the morning disappointed hehe. Will most likely have to go for an induction at 39w due to medical issues so I'm hoping baby will make a natural appearance before then.

A friend of mine 'knew' she'd be early with her second. I think she gave birth around 39w.

eekazombie · 05/06/2013 12:20

I thought I'd be very overdue but baby arrived at 38 weeks!

hartmel · 05/06/2013 12:21

I haven't given birth yet but once I found out I'm pregnant I had right away the instinct it will come before the due date..
I'm 26+1 now, and I still have that instinct..

Ilovestackingcups · 05/06/2013 12:34

Whatever happens OP, don't tell too many people how you're feeling. That way, whatever happens at the end, you can tell everyone 'I knew DC would be early/late/boy/girl/etc.

For the record, knew my DC1 would be late, even went out for due date tea and cake with friends, no bother. Arrived 40+13. Smile

Snowflakepie · 05/06/2013 12:34

With DD I had a date in my head all along, for no real reason. It was 3 days before due date. Contractions started on that date although she was born the following day.

With this pg, once again I have had a date in my head. No idea why. It is 5 days before my due date. Baby is a boy and I have been told is a bit bigger, I feel bigger although total weight gained is exactly the same as DD was.

So we'll see in 9 days if I'm right! I was certain of the sex before I had the scans and was right both times too. But that's just chance I guess. I hope baby is early as I'm knackered lol!

effyzm · 05/06/2013 14:07

I'm pretty convinced I'm having a boy. Though I've had 2 ladies in their 80's (separate occasions) tell me I'm having a girl so will see.Smile

Me and my DP were convinced I'd give birth at the weekend, sure enough on a saturday morning contractions kicked in by the early hours of sunday my little girl was with me. I had a feeling I wouldn't go overdue and was two days before due date.

CuppaSarah · 05/06/2013 14:54

Oh I forgot to mention, myself, SIl and MIL all knew she was a girl. When my SIL fell pregnant we all knew he was a boy-which he was. I heard somewhere 70% of women guess their babies gender correctly

Gerty1002 · 05/06/2013 19:29

Am 27+3 and have been convinced since about 20 weeks that he'll be early, by about a week. I was right about him being a boy but I guess that's just a 50/50 chance haha :)

Selba · 05/06/2013 19:43

nooo, of course you can't Grin

effyzm · 06/06/2013 15:56

I'm hoping my instinct is right. Wouldn't mind labouring at 38/39 weeks this baby is so big already Hmm.

Last time I was convinced it was a boy, & it was, & I was sure he was going to be late... He was!

This time... I had a feeling it was twins definitely just the one, it was a girl with extra bits according to 2 scans, he was going to be early... Now at 40+2 I've given up trying to guess anything & I'm just hoping he comes out at some point! I'm beginning to get the feeling I'll be pregnant forever! Wink

LittleMilla · 06/06/2013 21:58

When I was pg with ds1 I 'knew' I was having a boy and actually had the vision that I'd have three boys.

Currently 34 weeks with ds2 (we found out this time - pg was totally diff and I was questioning my instinct Smile) but no clue on early/late. Sort of think I'll go in to labour at 38 weeks but too scared to say it out loud Grin

Selba · 06/06/2013 22:51

You have a one in 2 chance of being right !!!

orderinformation · 06/06/2013 23:16

I had this feeling with ds. Dd was bang on time and I was convinced ds would be early. I had my money on 37 weeks - just had a feeling. He was two weeks late and came naturally two hours before my booked induction! So much for my feeling.

Dorris83 · 07/06/2013 08:55

Well I can't trust my instincts... Was sure I was having a girl... Boy!
Was sure I'd be late... 38 weeks and he arrived!
Thankfully my maternal instincts are serving me better than by pregnancy ones!

rrreow · 08/06/2013 10:11

Well as far as anecdotal evidence goes, I was right! Had a sweep on Thursday at 38+5, baby born yesterday (Friday)!

badguider · 08/06/2013 10:18

I've a strong feeling this one will be late.

Can I ask people who had sweeps or induction at 38 or 39, was there a worry about the baby?
Here they don't do sweeps till 41 and induction till nearly 42 unless there's a specific concern.
That probably contributes to my idea that he won't show till at least 41 weeks.

rrreow · 08/06/2013 10:47

badguider I had obstetric cholestasis so was under a lot of pressure to have an induction from 37 weeks. Midwife very happy to do a sweep at 38+5 (she offered). Not sure if that's normal policy.

effyzm · 08/06/2013 11:13

My midwife won't do a sweep until I'm 40 weeks and over. Unless the hospital gives her permission to. I'm hoping I won't need one anyway.

rrreow, any problems due to your OC? I'm nearly 37 weeks with OC and they're freaking me out with all the talk of induction, constant monitoring etc. just wondered if you managed to have a fairly 'normal/natural' birth or if they insisted on loads of intervention? Going into labour naturally seems to be my only hope at the moment and baby isn't playing along (breech as well).

Sorry effyzm for the hijack!

Sunnysummer · 08/06/2013 11:36

Not for me... I was convinced that my baby would arrive late like every other baby in my family, but he came out at 38 weeks (and the day my mat leave began). Fwiw I was also convinced he'd be a she, so maybe just have terrible maternal instincts Smile
