About to have my wc vaccine, are there any side affects afterwards? (Sore arm? Flu like symptoms etc)

I had a bit of a sore arm for a few days and that was it. It was less sore than the flu jab for me!

I didn't really have any. Vaguely sore arm for a day, but not as sore as it has been from other jabs in the past. No other symptoms at all. Easy!

I had a very sore arm and a red mark on my skin where the injection site was. The soreness was quite strange as it restricted the movement of my arm a little. I was warned by the nurse who gave me the jab though!

Thank you all, sore arm I can just about handle. Sill recovering from diarrhoea, vomitting and flu like symptoms (stiff neck, headaches) feeling better but not 100% myself yet. Didn't want to add more pain and discomfort on top of that.

Bit of a red lump around the injection site, and a sore arm for 3-4 days. Totally worth it though! :)

I had a sore arm like i had been digged for a few days, no cold or flu symptoms though, it was fine and was over VERY quickly.

MrsBri · 04/06/2013 09:35

None at all for me, same as with the flu jab. Think I'm quite lucky!

MisselthwaiteManor · 04/06/2013 12:06

I had a big red swollen lump which was very itchy and sore to lay on so ask for it in the arm you don't sleep on. Other than that I felt fine, no fluey symptoms or anything like that.

RugBugs · 04/06/2013 12:10

Had mine yesterday late afternoon and it was fine until about 10 when it started to get really sore and whole upper arm very painful to touch.
I can't raise my arm today and it's still sore whenever I move it.
Yet another excuse for me to hand more housework over to DP Grin even if only for a few days!

I had an incredibly sore arm for about a week. First 2 days I could hardly get dressed or move my arm. I think I had more of a reaction to it than is usual. I'd recommend applying hot flannels and massaging the injection site as soon after as possible to avoid it (apparently it's the tetanus in the shot that causes the stiffness, not the WC).

Not saying the above to put you off by the way, I'd have it again in a heartbeat. I just wish I'd known about hot flannels/massage beforehand.

Sore bum (wasn't sleeping and couldn't face a sore arm) and two days later thought I was getting a cold until I put two and two together. Didn't last long.

Lydia161290 · 04/06/2013 12:33

Bit of a sore arm for 1-2 days. That was it. I think the pain is a bit over exaggerated on here to be honest. :)

The whooping cough jab also contains diphtheria and tetanus. How sore you will be depends on how many times you have previously had the tetanus one, as that only lasts circa 10 years and the side effects get gradually worse. I've had a few tetanus jabs, so my vaccination meant a very sore arm for a few days, but it went away and then back to normal. Good thing was no generalized physiological side effects such as a fluey feeling!

Thank you all - had it done, feel slightly sore when I raise my arm but other than that so far, it feels okay.
