I have had a headache since Sunday!!

Feel crap in a pregnant way other than that but nothing terrible.

Are long term headaches normal?

How many weeks?

bananananacoconuts · 04/06/2013 07:33

I had blinding headaches in my second pregnancy and was told it's quite common and just drink as much water as possible.

Madamecastafiore · 04/06/2013 07:35

It's not throbbing just constantly there.

Please this can't be another thing I have to put up with.

When will the magical blooming non sicky non tired non achy bloody second trimester start!

OP posts:
PseudoBadger · 04/06/2013 07:39

Have just started getting them for the past week (I'm 21 weeks now) and aside from checking my BP I just drink lots and take a paracetamol if it's really bad.

Madamecastafiore · 04/06/2013 07:55

Thanks guys. Will get BP checked at work today and continue with the paracetamol and drinking lots.

It's just a bloody another thing to have to put up with.

I had bad headaches in the second trimester.

Whether it is coincidence I don't know, but I took advice from the NHS website and started to drink milk before bed and that seemed to stop the headaches I'd been waking up with.

MrsDexter · 04/06/2013 13:23

Do you have the link re drinking the milk? Thank you

MrsBri · 04/06/2013 13:31

I can't find it. Somebody else sent it to me.

It suggested milk and biscuit before bed though.

I'll keep looking to see if I can locate it for you.

MissHC · 04/06/2013 18:15

I have this too. Constant headaches and 16 weeks now.
I spoke to the midwife about this during my 16w check. They put me through to dr (long story but I also had protein in my urine).
Anyway I'm allergic to paracetamol but dr prescribed codeine, 15mg doses. This works miracles for me.
If it continues maybe call your mw/dr?

thethreeblondies · 04/06/2013 18:31

Between weeks 14-18 I had loads, including waking up in the morning and not shifting all day ones, it wasn't untill I just saw this thread and realised I haven't had one in over a week! I'm just over 20 weeks now so really hope they shift for you too, massive sympathies they are horrid x

retroelle · 04/06/2013 19:31

I have found that I absolutely have to drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day otherwise I will get a headache. This started about 2 weeks ago when I was 16 weeks. But as long as I keep drinking water, I'm fine now!

ghosteditor · 04/06/2013 21:33

Poor you! It's common in the second trimester, but bizarrely not often mentioned. I had terrible headaches, only in the second trimester, but I have a history of cluster headaches and also had pregnancy induced hypertension from very early stages.

Almost nothing was as bad as the crashing headaches while the Dr tinkered with my blood pressure meds for the week I stayed in post-birth - awful! So do keep an eye on BP but most likely it's something which will pass soon. Smile

3peasinapod · 04/06/2013 21:53

10wks and had blinding headaches, went to gp and advised rest, water and paracetamol. I was sick most evenings from headache alone. I've had ms with previous pregnancy and I know I wasn't sick from that.
I have them under control now but if I don't drink water I suffer bug time...
I hope they improve for you..

HenriettaPye · 04/06/2013 22:14

Please please get checked out. i dint want to worry you but I had headaches in pregnancy. Midwife said common but I felt it was something else,at 20 weeks I thought I maybe needed glasses so went to optician. The optician could see my optic nerves were swollen and this can be sign of brain tumor. I was rushed to hospital, and was there for a week, getting ct and MRI scans. Ended up that the fluid surrounding my brain wasn't draining and pressure inside my skull was too high, and had to get it drained through my spine with a lumbar puncture. If I didn't get that done, I could have lost my sight.

I now have perfect vision and a perfectly healthy baby

Madamecastafiore · 05/06/2013 05:46

Thanks guys.

Blimey HP that's bloody lucky you went to get your eyes checked.

My blood pressure was checked at work yesterday and is slightly elevated which I was told was normal in pregnancy. I normally have low blood pressure so is in normal range now.

I do think it is just pregnancy, I get awful migraines when I'm not pregnant but never when pregnant so maybe this is the pay back for being migraine free for 9 months.

I think I drink a lot but haven't upped how much I drunk since being pregnant so will try to drink more.

It's silly but have sort of convinced myself that something is wrong and then I feel dizzy or sick or have headache and that sort of confirms my worse imaginings. Hmm Midwife tomorrow though, think I will feel a lot better when have heard heart beat.

Elevated blood pressure is not normal in pregnancy - who told you that?

When you see the midwife, remember to remind them of your normal baseline BP (i.e. non pregnant) as it is the difference between that and your current reading that is significant.

Do you have any visual disturbances/puffy ankles, fingers/epigastric pain?

The midwife will ask you all these questions. Hope all goes well.

Madamecastafiore · 05/06/2013 06:11

One of nurses at work told me!

No other symptoms. Feel really crap. Tired, sicky, well just really rubbish but no symptoms of puffiness.

Will most certainly check with midwife tomorrow. Thank you.

Reduced BP is normal in pregnancy

Teaandflapjacks · 05/06/2013 09:11

I had this a lot - but I had extreme MS with it so I put it down to that. They did get better though . I have low BP, have had throughout, plus low iron. I take iron tablets which have helped a bit - partic since taking with OJ to aid absorption - might be worth getting iron levels checked? They are really rubbish though!! x

ghosteditor · 05/06/2013 12:16

My headaches were definitely the result of BP fluctuations, so it could be the changes rather than the levels which are responsible.
