Taking dc1 to a consultants appt

I'm 35 weeks with dc2 and have a consultant appt next week as baby is still breech. Appt likely to be a check up plus belly feel and possible scan. Do you think I can take dc1 at 17mths?! He's a bit squirmy and whiny when in buggy...my mil was meant to be having him but she's pulled out as as a more interesting thing to do. My parents are looking after my dying grandmother and can't guarantee being anywhere at a particular time. I don't know what to do! He'll be a nightmare if I take him, but will they be used to that kind of thing?!

I'm sure they're used to people taking their kids along- sometimes there just isn't any other option! Can you bribe him/her with food? I find when I need them to be quiet/sit still for a while, drip feeding a snack (something with small bits so they can keep grazing) works. And a book/toys?

Try not to worry, I think often we feel more anxious about them being a pain/not sitting still than people around us!

Can you have a friend go with you and occupy dc1 in the waiting room perhaps?

I took my nightmare 3 year old a few weeks ago and he was brilliant for a change! Just sat in a chair to watch scan and behaved.

I've got to go next week and he's at school but am taking a 12 month old mindee but she'll be fine.

I agree with taking someone with you to occupy your dc in the waiting room. You will want to discuss things with the consultant and listen to what he has to say, he may give you options such as ecv and you will want to be able to take things in properly. This is really difficult to do with a toddler to occupy even if they are well behaved. Will your dc sit in a buggy with a snack while you talk to the consultant?

take some very time consuming snacks toys / games. I used to take nik naks (those very fiddly crisp things), the iphone and a handbag full of small cars.

It depends on what the consultant is going to do. If he/she wants a scan done then its probably not advisable to take him with you as who will look after him whilst you're having it done (my hospital don't allow children in the scanning room)

Thanks for the advice, I've managed to get him booked into nursery thankfully. He's not currently very good at being distracted by anything and wants to be where I am, not good if they want to do anything beyond talking to me!
