Jacuzzi use at 39 weeks

I know the general advice is no - but wondered if anyone knows the reasons for this?

next week DH and I are going to a posh hotel for our anniversary, which will have sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi etc.

I am planning not to use sauna or steam, but wondered about Jacuzzi?? I have avoided them until now but my understanding is that the risks are due to heat, worse in first trimester and surely if I limit the amount of time I'm in it will be ok?

Clearly the risk of inducing labour isn't something that worries me at this stage of the game, but don't want to take a stupid risk because I've miss-understood!

thanks

Wouldn't be too great If your waters broke in the lovely relaxing jacuzzi ... I think the risk is mainly overheating and making you all fainty rather than any risk to baby. But I wouldn't at 39 incase waters broke :/ x

I wanted to go in a jacuzzi at 24 weeks but the people that ran the pool area in the hotel we were staying in wouldn't let me! As I walked through the spa reception the guy asked if I was 'with child' and gave me a whole load of do's and don'ts. I thought they were talking bollocks but rules was rules, I just did a few laps of the pool in a bit of a huff.

I think the other reason why Jacuzzis are not recommended (although the heat is the big one, especially at 39 weeks) is because of hygiene, not yours but previous users! You just don't know who's been in there, because of the heating there may be bacteria that as a pregnant woman, even if the Jacuzzi has been cleaned recently might still put you at risk of catching something.

Urgh, didn't think of that, don't think ill ever go in one again!! Haha *shudder

You raise good points. Had not considered the infection risk... Rank. Think I'll go for a swim instead

I hadn't thought of that either, yuck!

I read something about the bubbles being the reason why you shouldn't go in a jaquzzi. The bubbles can get in your swimwear and if inside you can cause an infection - or something along those lines

Could you sit on the site and dangle your feet in? Less likely to over heat that way and still get the nice warm water on your legs (just avoid direct contact with jets)

Side not site stupid phone

I was told by my DFIL (who has his own Jacuzzi) that they can affect the development of young organs which is why they are recommended only for 12 years and over.

Thanks for all the help ladies - DH and I went last night for our anniversary treat and in the end I just sat with my feet over the edge - it was so hot just doing that that I couldn't stay for long so would definitely not have wanted to go in even if I could have!!
